Blanche Sweet
Sarah Blanche Sweet (June 18, 1896 – September 6, 1986) was an American silent film actress who began her career in the earliest days of the Hollywood motion picture film industry. Early life Born Sarah Blanche Sweet (though her first name Sarah was rarely used) in Chicago, Illinois, in 1896, she was the daughter of Pearl Alexander, a dancer, and Gilbert Joel Sweet, a wine merchant. The actors Antrim and Gertrude Short were cousins of Blanche. Her mother died when Blanche was an infant, and she was raised by her maternal grandmother, Cora Blanche Alexander. Cora Alexander found her many parts as a young child. At the age of four she toured in a play called '' The Battle of the Strong'' with Marie Burroughs and Maurice Barrymore. A decade later, Sweet acted with Barrymore's son Lionel in a D. W. Griffith-directed film. In 1909, she started work at Biograph Studios under contract to director D. W. Griffith. Wilfred Van Norman Lucas (January 30, 1871 – December 13, 1940) was a Canadian American stage actor who found success in film as an actor, director, and screenwriter. Early life Lucas was born in Norfolk County, Ontario on January 30, 1871,US Passport Application July 17, 1917 (Wilfred Lucas) most likely in the township of Townsend where at the time his father served as a Wesleyan Methodist minister. Verner Clarges (January 9, 1846 – August 11, 1911) was a stage actor who later appeared in silent films. He appeared in more than 60 films between 1909 and 1911. Clarges was born in Bath, Somerset, England, and came to America in 1883 as a lyceum entertainer. He performed as a platform reader before he became an actor. On August 11, 1911, Clarges died at his home in New York, New York. A short film is any motion picture that is short enough in running time not to be considered a feature film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits". In the United States, short films were generally termed short subjects from the 1920s into the 1970s when confined to two 35 mm reels or less, and featurettes for a film of three or four reels. Frank Opperman (American Actor)
Frank Opperman (1861–1922) was an actor in American silent films. In 1916, he was reported to have had a 29-year career on stage and a 7-year film career. Between 1903 and 1907, Opperman appeared three times on Broadway, in ''Little Lord Fauntleroy'', ''Cashel Byron'' (an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's '' Cashel Byron's Profession''), and an adaptation of ''Uncle Tom's Cabin''. In the 1915 short Keystone comedy film ''A Lucky Leap'', Opperman portrays a store owner. Billie Bennett portrays his wife.
