''The Pretty Things'' is the self-titled debut album by the English rock band Pretty Things, which features mostly R&B and rock and roll cover versions. A re-issue released in 2000 on CD featured every track from both the American and British versions of the album. The liner notes were written by Jimmy Duncan and Bryan Morrison. 2011 release The album was released as part of a two CD package with the follow-up album '' Get the Picture?'' as ''the pretty things get the picture?'' Both CDs include bonus cuts. Pretty Things
The Pretty Things were an English band formed in September 1963 in Sidcup, Kent. They took their name from Willie Dixon's 1955 song "Pretty Thing". A pure rhythm and blues band in their early years, with several singles charting in the United Kingdom, they later embraced other genres such as psychedelic rock in the late 1960s (with 1968's ''S.F. Sorrow'' being one of the first rock operas), hard rock in the early 1970s and new wave in the early 1980s. Despite this, they never managed to recapture the same level of commercial success of their early releases. She's Fine, She's Mine
"You Don't Love Me" is a rhythm and blues-influenced blues song recorded by American musician Willie Cobbs in 1960. Adapted from Bo Diddley's 1955 song "She's Fine She's Mine", it is Cobbs' best-known song and features a guitar figure and melody that has appealed to musicians in several genres. Although it became a regional hit when it was released in Memphis, Tennessee, copyright issues prevented its further promotion and national chart success. The song inspired many adaptations, such as "Shimmy Shimmy Walk" by the Megatons and "You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)" by Jamaican singer Dawn Penn. Alan Klein
Alan Charles Klein (born 29 June 1940) is an English singer-songwriter and musician. He wrote the soundtrack for the stage play and film, ''What a Crazy World'' (1963). In 1964, he released his only solo album, ''Well at Least It's British'', that was re-released in 2008 by RPM Records. Klein was born in Clerkenwell, London. Many of his recordings were made with the record producer, Joe Meek. In 1966 he went on tour as lead vocalist of The New Vaudeville Band. Brian Pendleton
Brian Pendleton (13 April 1944 – 16 May 2001) was a British guitarist, and a founder member of the 1960s pop group Pretty Things. Early life Born in Wolverhampton, England, Pendleton moved south as a child, attending Dartford Grammar School. After school, he started work in the same field as his father as a trainee insurance clerk, before responding to an advertisement placed in ''Melody Maker'' by Dick Taylor and Phil May of the Pretty Things, seeking a guitarist. Musical career As rhythm guitarist for Pretty Things, Pendleton featured on their first two albums, ''The Pretty Things'' and '' Get the Picture?'', and the period of the band's greatest commercial success, when they enjoyed hits such as " Rosalyn" and "Don't Bring Me Down" (1964) and "Honey I Need" (1965). Dick Taylor
Richard Clifford Taylor (born 28 January 1943) is an English musician, best known as the guitarist and founding member of the Pretty Things. Taylor was an early bassist for the Rolling Stones, but left the band to resume his studies at Sidcup Art College. While there he formed the Pretty Things in September 1963. Phil May (singer)
Philip Dennis Arthur May (born Wadey, later Kattner; 9 November 1944 – 15 May 2020) was an English vocalist. He gained fame in the 1960s as the lead singer of Pretty Things, of which he was a founding member. May remained a member throughout the band's changing line-up over the years, and was one of the band's main lyricists. He was the primary lyricist for the album ''S.F. Sorrow''. Ellas McDaniel (born Ellas Otha Bates; December 30, 1928 – June 2, 2008), known professionally as Bo Diddley, was an American guitarist who played a key role in the transition from the blues to rock and roll. Get The Picture? (Pretty Things Album)
''Get the Picture?'' is the second album by the English rock group Pretty Things, released in 1965. Recording Recording began on the Pretty Things' second album in around September 1965, just months after the release of their debut. It ended up being a haphazard affair thanks to a growing problem with drummer Viv Prince whose behaviour was becoming ever more erratic and reckless. With Prince being unreliable, the band had help in the form of producer Bobby Graham who was a renowned drummer in his own right, playing on several tracks. John Stax's flatmate John C. Alder helped out on at least two tracks, one of which was "You'll Never Do It Baby". Jimmy Page, then a prominent session musician, was occasionally involved in the recordings, receiving a partial writing credit on "You Don't Believe Me." Bryan Morrison
Bryan Morrison (14 August 1942 – 27 September 2008) was an English businessman, music publisher and polo player. Career He served as representative for musicians such as Pink Floyd. His company, the Bryan Morrison Agency, became one of the leading London booking agents for R&B and progressive rock, as well as organising tours for US acts. Eventually Bryan had the exclusive booking rights for clubs like Blaises, the Cromwellian and the Revolution, in Bruton Street, Mayfair. Jimmy Duncan ''(née'' James Ollie Duncan, Jr.; 25 June 1927 in Houston – 9 November 2011 in Houston) was an American songwriter, singer, composer, author, arranger and producer, best known for his 1957 song "My Special Angel," a No.1 country/western hit for Bobby Helms.
