''The President'' (German: ''Der Präsident'') is a 1928 German silent drama film directed by Gennaro Righelli and starring Ivan Mozzhukhin, Nikolai Malikoff and Suzy Vernon.Goble p.484 It was shot at the Staaken and EFA Studios in Berlin as well as on location in Nice on the French Riviera. The film's sets were designed by the art director Robert Neppach. It was distributed by the German branch of Universal Pictures. Gennaro Righelli
Gennaro Righelli (12 December 1886 – 6 January 1949) was an Italian film director, screenwriter and actor. He directed more than 110 films in Italy and Germany between 1910 and 1947. In 1930, he directed the first Italian sound film, ''The Song of Love''. He was married to the film star Maria Jacobini, whom he frequently cast in his films. Location shooting is the shooting of a film or television production in a real-world setting rather than a sound stage or backlot. The location may be interior or exterior. Iwa Wanja
Iwa Wanja (10 October 1905 – 26 June 1991) was a Bulgarian actress based in Germany. She moved to Berlin to pursue her career, appearing in around thirty German films. Married to Norbert Schultze, German composer, best remembered for having written the melody of the World War II classic Lili Marleen. Life and career In 1937, Wanja appeared in the Nazi propaganda film, ''Urlaub auf Ehrenwort'' (''Holiday on Parole'', also known as ''Furlough on Parole''). Sometime around 1943, she wed German film composer Norbert Arnold Wilhelm Richard Shultze. They had two sons together. Heinrich Schroth
Heinrich August Franz Schroth (23 March 1871 – 14 January 1945) was a German stage and film actor. Career Schroth was born in Pirmasens, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. He made his acting debut at the Sigmaringen Royal Theatre in 1890. In 1894 he went to the Municipal Theatre in Augsburg, in 1896 to Mainz and in 1897 to the Royal Court Theatre in Hanover. From 1899 to 1905, he spent six years as a part of the ensemble of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and from 1905 onwards at various Berlin theatres. Schroth made his film debut in the 1916 Walter Schmidthässler-directed drama ''Welker Lorbeer''. He spent the 1910s in numerous German silent film productions, working with such directors as George Jacoby, Robert Wiene and Harry Piel. Robert Neppach
Robert Neppach (2 March 1890 – 18 August 1939) was an Austrian architect, film producer and art director. Neppach worked from 1919 in the German film industry. He oversaw the art direction of over 80 films during his career, including F.W. Murnau's '' Desire'' (1921) and Richard Oswald's '' Lucrezia Borgia'' (1922). In May 1933, his first wife Nelly, a successful tennis player, took her life because of the discrimination and prosecution of Jews in Nazi Germany.
