The Premiership (TV Series)
''The Premiership'' (also known as ''The Premiership on ITV'') is a television programme which showed highlights of the FA Premier League. It was ITV Sport's flagship football show from August 2001 to May 2004. The show was created after the ITV network won a multimillion-pound deal to air Premier League highlights once owned by the BBC. The programme was presented by Des Lynam, with Gabby Logan as a stand-in and Ally McCoist, Barry Venison and Andy Townsend frequently serving as pundits. ''The Premiership'' ended in 2004, when the rights returned to the BBC from the 2004/05 season. Background ''Match of the Day'', the BBC's long-running football programme, was in its eighth year of terrestrial Premier League coverage and about to start a record ninth in 2000. Des Lynam
Desmond Michael Lynam, (born 17 September 1942) is an Irish-born television and radio presenter. In a broadcasting career spanning more than forty years, he has hosted television coverage of many of the world's major sporting events, presenting ''Grandstand'', ''Match of the Day'', Wimbledon, the Grand National, ''Sportsnight'', the World Cup and Olympic Games, as well as presenting non-sporting programmes such as ''Holiday'', ''How Do They Do That?'' and ''Countdown''. Early years Lynam was born in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, and moved with his family to Brighton, England, at the age of six. ''The Guardian'' is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in 1821 as ''The Manchester Guardian'', and changed its name in 1959. Ned Boulting
Norris Edward Boulting (born 11 July 1969) is a British sports journalist and television presenter best known for his coverage of football, cycling and darts. Early life and education Boulting was born in Andover, Hampshire but moved to Bedford as a child. He attended Bedford School, where he studied for A-levels in French, German and English, before reading modern languages at Jesus College, Cambridge. Gabriel Clarke
Gabriel Clarke is a British TV journalist and documentary filmmaker. Clarke earned an English Literature degree from the University of London and began his journalistic career with local newspapers in Somerset and Bristol. He started his sports broadcasting career with Radio Trent in the East Midlands before moving into TV. Clarke joined ITV Sport in 1991, as a reporter for the ''Saint and Greavsie'' television programme. Guy Mowbray
Guy Nicholas Mowbray (born 16 February 1972) is an English football commentator, who primarily appears on the BBC and BT Sport. While working for Eurosport at the 1998 World Cup, he became the youngest ever television commentator on a World Cup Final, aged 26. Early life Mowbray's career began in the mid-1990s through the ClubCall network, a series of premium rate phone lines containing club information and commentaries. He joined BBC Radio York where he covered rugby league, cricket and football. He then moved to commercial station Sun FM in Sunderland and then to Metro Radio in Newcastle. Jonathan Martin Champion (born 23 May 1965) is a British sports commentator currently working as the lead association football commentator for ESPN (US). Champion is a well-established and experienced commentator who has also worked for the BBC and ITV over the last 20 years.He has commentated on four FA Cup Finals and six League Cup Finals, as well as numerous games across the Premier League, Champions League and Football League. Clive Tyldesley (born 21 August 1954) is an English television sports broadcaster. He was ITV's senior football commentator from 1998 until 2020. In that role, he has led the ITV commentary team at four World Cups and four European Championships, and been lead commentator on 17 UEFA Champions League finals and a commentator on nine FA Cup finals for ITV.
