''The Power of Silence'' is a 1928 American silent mystery drama film directed by Wallace Worsley and starring Belle Bennett, Ena Gregory and Anders Randolf.Connelly p.397 It was produced and distributed by Tiffany Pictures, one of the leading independent studios. Synopsis Mamie Stone is charged with the murder of Jim Wright, with whom she had a son Donald, on circumstantial evidence. She refuses to speak out in her defence and is in fact concealing identity of the true killer, Wright's wife Gloria. Wallace Worsley
Wallace A. Worsley, Sr. (December 8, 1878 – March 26, 1944) was an American stage actor who became a film director in the silent era. During his career, Worsley directed 29 films and acted in 7 films. He directed several motion pictures starring Lon Chaney Sr., and his professional relationship with the actor was the best Chaney had, second to his partnership with Tod Browning. ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame'' (1923) is one of his best-known works, along with '' The Penalty'' (1920). Worsley's 1922 horror film ''A Blind Bargain'' with Chaney is one of the most sought after lost films. Acting In April 1901 Worsely appeared at the Empire Theatre (41st Street) as Lt. Virginia Belle Pearson (March 7, 1886 – June 6, 1958) was an American stage and film actress. She made fifty-one films in a career which extended from 1910 until 1932. Career She was born on March 7, 1886, in Anchorage, Kentucky to parents Joseph F. Pearson and Mary Alice Calloway. She had one younger brother, Harvey Thompson Pearson.
