The Playbirds
''The Playbirds'' is a 1978 British sexploitation film, made by Irish-born director Willy Roe and starring 1970s pin-up Mary Millington alongside Glynn Edwards, Suzy Mandel and Windsor Davies. It was the official follow-up to '' Come Play with Me'', one of the most successful of the British sex comedies of the 1970s, which also starred Millington. Plot In London, an unidentified serial killer targets female models, strangling each woman and marking the forehead with the number of the victim. Scotland Yard detectives Jack Holbourne and Harry Morgan are assigned to investigate and discover that all of the women had recently appeared in the pornographic magazine ''Playbirds''. Four suspects are identified: the magazine's publisher, Harry Dougan; photographer Terry Day; a street preacher called Hern; and anti-pornography campaigner George Ransome MP. Tony Scannell
Thomas Anthony Scannell (14 August 1945 – 26 May 2020) was an Irish actor, known for his role as DS Ted Roach in ITV's ''The Bill''. Career Scannell's debut on ''The Bill'' was on 23 October 1984, in an episode called "A Friend in Need". Initially, he was signed for two episodes, but stayed until 1993 and returned for two episodes in 2000. He also appeared in the Channel 5 soap opera ''Family Affairs'' as Eddie Harris from 1997 to 1999. Personal life His father, Tom Scannell, was a professional goalkeeper, and played once for the Republic of Ireland against Luxembourg in 1954. In 2002, Tony Scannell was forced to declare himself bankrupt, owing the Inland Revenue over £42,000. He was a Freemason. Scannell died on 26 May 2020 aged 74 from unknown causes. Howard Nelson (actor)
Howard ‘Vanderhorn’ Nelson (1934-7 December 2007) was an ex-champion bodybuilder who also acted in many British sex comedies. Cast in both comedy roles as well as `heavies' due to his muscular appearance, Nelson's most regular employer was close personal friend Harrison Marks. For many years Nelson worked in Marks' Studio in Farringdon. As well as being a regular in Marks' softcore films (''The Nine Ages of Nakedness'', '' Come Play With Me''), Nelson also appeared in several of Marks 8mm glamour films. Nelson also made several (non sex) appearances in various blue films made by Marks, usually wearing elaborate disguises like dark glasses and/or a blonde wig. In 1978 he appeared on the cover of Forum magazine (Vol.10, No.11) he also featured as a 'spanking milkman' in the second issue of New Janus (circa 1982), a corporal punishment magazine Marks edited. Cosey Fanni Tutti (born Christine Carol Newby; 4 November 1951) is an English performance artist, musician and writer, best known for her time in the avant-garde groups Throbbing Gristle and Chris & Cosey. Tutti first performed under the name Cosmosis. According to Throbbing Gristle biographer Simon Ford, the name of Cosey Fanni Tutti was suggested to her by mail artist Robin Klassnick based on the title of the opera ''Così fan tutte'', meaning literally "That's What All Women Do." Early career Tutti was a performer with COUM Transmissions, of which she was a founding member in 1969. Her addition changed the nature of the group, which had been mostly a musical venture. Ballard Blascheck (6 August 1904 – 16 January 1988), known professionally as Ballard Berkeley, was an English actor of stage and screen. He is best remembered for playing Major Gowen in the British television sitcom ''Fawlty Towers''. Life and career The son of Joseph and Beatrice Blascheck, he was born in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Dudley Sutton
Dudley Sutton (6 April 1933 – 15 September 2018) was an English actor. Active in radio, stage, film and television, he was arguably best known for his role of Tinker Dill in the BBC Television drama series ''Lovejoy''. Early life Sutton was born in Kingston upon Thames, and educated at a boys' boarding school at Lifton Park, Devon. He served in the Royal Air Force as a mechanic before enrolling in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, from which he was later expelled for responding to rock-and-roll. Sandra Dorne (born Joan Smith; 19 June 1924 – 25 December 1992) was a British actress. Career Also known as Sandra Holt, Dorne was often known in the 1950s as the B-film Diana Dors. As a platinum blonde, she was a regular female lead in B-films in the late 1940s and early 1950s. She trained at the Rank Organisation's "charm school".
