''The Pietasters'', also commonly referred to as ''Piestomp'', is the first album by the ska/soul band the Pietasters. It was released in 1993 on Slugtone. Alternative recordings had earlier been released on cassette as ''All You Can Eat'' and ''The Ska-Rumptious 7 Inch''. The CD was reissued in 2000 and made available through the band's website. The Pietasters
The Pietasters are an American eight-piece ska/soul band from Washington, D.C., with additional members from Maryland and Virginia. History In 1990, Stephen Jackson and Chris Watt met at Virginia Tech, through mutual friend Tal Bayer, who was attending nearby Radford University, and they formed a ska band called the Slugs with their former schoolmate Tom Goodin, and an architecture classmate, Ben Gauslin. They changed their name to the Dancecrashers for a few months, before taking the name the Pietasters. The newly formed band convinced the local college booking agency to bring the band Bad Manners from England to perform at the Virginia Tech auditorium, with themselves as the opening act. This was their first public performance, following shows they had staged in the living room of Jackson and Watt's rental house. The two bands later toured the U.S. and Europe together. Moon Ska Records was one of the most influential ska record labels of the 1980s and 1990s. The label operated from 1983 until 2000, and during those seventeen years, only released ska and ska-influenced music. Originally named ''Moon Records'', as a tribute to Sun Records, the label changed its name to ''Moon Ska Records'' because another label owned the copyright to the ''Moon Records'' name. "Powerhouse" (1937) is an instrumental musical composition by Raymond Scott, perhaps best known today as the "assembly line" music in animated film, animated cartoons released by Warner Bros. History In scripted comments read on the First Anniversary Special of CBS Radio's ''Saturday Night Swing Club'', on which the Raymond Scott, Raymond Scott Quintette performed, host Paul Douglas (radio), Paul Douglas announced that "Powerhouse" had been premiered on that program in January or early February 1937. Scott's Quintette (actually a sextet) first recorded "Powerhouse" in New York on February 20, 1937, along with three other titles. Raymond Scott (born Harry Warnow; September 10, 1908 – February 8, 1994) was an American composer, band leader, pianist, record producer, and inventor of electronic instruments. Though Scott never scored cartoon soundtracks, his music is familiar to millions because Carl Stalling adapted it in over 120 Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and other Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoons. His compositions may also be heard in ''The Ren and Stimpy Show'' (which uses Scott's recordings in twelve episodes), ''The Simpsons'', ''Duckman'', ''Animaniacs'', ''The Oblongs'', ''Batfink'', and '' Bluey''.
