The Perfect Crime (1928 Film)
''The Perfect Crime'' is a 1928 American part-talkie crime drama film directed by Bert Glennon and starring Clive Brook, Irene Rich and Ethel Wales.Wlaschin p.176 It is loosely based on the 1892 novel '' The Big Bow Mystery'' by Israel Zangwill. A criminologist sets out to prove there is such a thing as a perfect crime, and commits a murder without leaving any clues. However, when an innocent man is arrested for the crime he is presented with a moral dilemma. This was the first feature film not produced by either Warner Bros. or Fox Film to contain synchronized sound, also being the first non-Warner feature to contain any talking sequences. Bert Glennon
Bert Lawrence Glennon (November 19, 1893 – June 29, 1967) was an American cinematographer and film director. He directed '' Syncopation'' (1929), the first film released by RKO Radio Pictures. Biography Glennon was born in Anaconda, Montana in 1893 and attended Stanford University, where he graduated in 1912. Before gaining fame in Hollywood, Glennon served as a pursuit pilot instructor during World War I. He began his work in film in 1912 as a stage manager for theater entrepreneur Oliver Morosco and then c. 1913 worked for Keystone and Famous Players, then was laboratory superintendent for Clune Film Corporation, for four years. In 1915 he did his first film as cinematographer ''The Stingaree'' (serial) and in 1928 he directed his first film ''The Perfect Crime''. He had nearly a quarter century of theatrical experience before his debut film appearance in 1914 which led to a film career spanning almost three decades. James Farley (January 8, 1882 – October 12, 1947) was an American character actor of the silent and sound film eras. Biography Born in Waldron, Arkansas, on January 8, 1882, Farley made his film debut in the 1916 silent film '' Sins of Her Parent''. During his thirty-year film career he appeared in over 200 films and film shorts, including over 175 feature films. Farley worked right up until his death; his final film was released after his death, 1948's '' The Man from Texas''. The production of the film ended in early June 1947, and Farley died shortly after, on October 12, 1947, in Pacoima, California.
