''The People Next Door'' is a 1970 American drama film directed by David Greene and starring Eli Wallach and Julie Harris. JP Miller adapted the screenplay from his 1968 ''CBS Playhouse'' teleplay. Plot A married couple, Arthur and Gerrie Mason struggle with the realities of their imperfect marriage as they fight to save and rehabilitate their teenage daughter, Maxie, from having been led into a life of drug addiction and ultimate committal to a mental ward. Stephen McHattie Smith (born February 3, 1946)Other sources cite 1945, 1947, and 1948. is a Canadian actor. Since beginning his professional career in 1970, he has amassed over 200 film and television credits. He won the Genie Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in '' The Rocket'', and a Gemini Award for ''Life with Billy''. David Greene (director)
Lucius David Syms-Greene (born Lucius David Syms Brian Lederman; 22 February 1921 – 7 April 2003), known as David Greene, was a British television and film director, and actor. Early life and career David Greene was born in Manchester, England, and originally trained as a journalist, working for the ''Walthamstow Guardian''. In the Second World War he served in the merchant navy but was invalided out in 1941. He became Publicity Manager for the Everyman Theatre in London before deciding to become an actor. After training at RADA, he further perfected his craft at the renowned repertory theatre, the Oxford Playhouse, where he worked under the director Peter Ashmore. Greene began public performances in 1948, including roles at the Old Vic. He moved into British films in the same year, including some minor "classics" such as ''The Wooden Horse'' (1950). Nehemiah Persoff (August 2, 1919 – April 5, 2022) was an American character actor and painter. He appeared in more than 200 television series, films, and theatre productions and also performed as a voice artist in a career spanning 55 years, beginning after his service in the United States Army during World War II. Persoff got his first part as an extra in ''The Naked City'' (1948). He is best known for roles as Leo in ''The Harder They Fall'' (1956), as Little Bonaparte in ''Some Like It Hot'' (1959), as Rebbe Mendel in '' Yentl'' (1983), and as the voice of Papa Mousekewitz in the animated film ''An American Tail'' (1986) and its sequels.
