''The Patrician'' (german: Der Patrizier) is a 1992 historical trading simulation video game for Amiga, Atari ST and MS-DOS developed by Ascaron Entertainment and published by Triptychon Software. In the game, the player assumes the role of a merchant in any of several cities of the Hanseatic League, accumulating money, capital and consumer goods, and real estate, expanding his company, and furthering his career at home and abroad. Gameplay The main action of ''The Patrician'' typically consists of trading, using trading offices and ships. Supply and Demand play an important role in this game. Generally seen as one of the more complex business simulations, Patrician can overwhelm the player with too much information. Players can also build public works, private houses, and industries, pursue a career in politics, and interact with such characters as pirates and burglars. Ascaron
Ascaron Entertainment was a video game developer based in Germany. Founded as Ascon by Holger Flöttmann in 1991 and later renamed in October 1996 due to the possible confusion with the Swiss company Ascom AG, the company produced titles primarily for the PC until it became insolvent in 2009. Background and history Ascaron had its headquarters in Gütersloh, a town in western Germany. It had a development studio in Aachen and an international office in Birmingham, in the United Kingdom. Ascaron had a particular focus on strategy and management games. ''1869'' is a strategy and economics trading game developed and released by the Austrian company Max Design in 1992. Music was composed by Hannes Seifert for the Adlib OPL sound card.
