The Paradise (TV Series)
''The Paradise'' is a British television costume drama series co-produced by BBC Studios and ''Masterpiece''. ''The Paradise'' premiered in the United Kingdom on BBC One on 25 September 2012 and premiered in the United States on PBS on 6 October 2013. The series is an adaptation of Émile Zola's 1883 novel ''Au Bonheur des Dames'' that relocates the story to North East England. (Zola's novel itself is a retelling of the story of Aristide Boucicaut, the Bellême-born founder of Le Bon Marché). A second series was commissioned by BBC One in late October 2012 and was broadcast on 20 October 2013 on BBC One. On 12 February 2014, the BBC confirmed that ''The Paradise'' would not return for a third series. Maurizio Malagnini is an Italian composer who lives in London. Career Maurizio Malagnini is a composer based in London, who earned a master's degree with honors from the Royal College of Music in 2008. Since then, Malagnini has composed the music for many episodes of television for BBC One. In 2015 his score to '' The Paradise'' has been recognized with an Emmy nomination, and has been hailed as a "masterpiece of musical storytelling." Le Bon Marché (lit. "the good market", or "the good deal" in French; ) is a department store in Paris. Founded in 1838 and revamped almost completely by Aristide Boucicaut in 1852, it was one of the first modern department stores. Bellême () is a commune in the Orne department in northwestern France. Aristide Boucicaut
Aristide Boucicaut (; July 14, 1810 – December 26, 1877) was a French entrepreneur who created '' Le Bon Marché'', the first modern department store. Background Born in Bellême, in the Orne department on 14 July 1810, Boucicaut was the son of the owner of a small shop that sold fabrics, ribbons and other items for a woman's wardrobe. Career Early career Boucicaut worked in the family shop, then, at the age of 18, as a street vendor selling fabrics. In 1834 he moved to Paris and went to work in a novelty store on rue de Bac, the Petit Saint-Thomas, which sold women's clothing, hats, fabrics and other items.
