The Panics (EP 1)
''The Panics'' is the debut extended play by Australian alternative rock band, the Panics. It was released in January 2002 by littleBIGMAN Records. The EP did not reach the ARIA top 100, but peaked at No. 19 on the ARIA Hitseekers Singles chart. In 2002 the EP received a nomination and subsequently won the WAMi Award for ''Most Popular Local Original Single/EP''. Two of its five tracks, "My Brilliant Career" and "Four Walls", were recorded by Adam Keane at Survival Studios, with strings recorded in Gooseberry Hill by a friend of Jae Laffer. "Give Me Some Good Luck" and "Wake Up" were recorded at Steve Bond's house in Highgate, Western Australia. The EP was then mastered at Poons Head in Fremantle by Rob Grant. The artwork of the cover was done by Drew Wootton. "My Brilliant Career" and "Give Me Some Good Luck" enjoyed high rotation on Australian radio station Triple J and community radio stations around Australia. The Panics
The Panics are an indie rock band originally from Perth, Western Australia, and currently based in Melbourne, Victoria. History 2000–2006: Band formation and LittleBigMan Records The band started out while Jae Laffer (then known by his actual first name, Justin) and Drew Wootton were still at high school in Kalamunda, an outer suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Laffer and Wootton met on their first day of school. The duo added Drew's younger brother Myles on drums, Paul Otway on bass and Jules Douglas on slide guitar, keyboards and vocals and formed The Panics. After being spotted playing at the Inglewood Hotel by Happy Mondays' Gaz Whelan and Pete Carroll, following Happy Mondays' Perth performance at The Big Day Out in 2000, they were the first signing to the UK-based label LittleBIGMAN Records. Gooseberry Hill, Western Australia
Gooseberry Hill is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kalamunda. It is the site of Gooseberry Hill National Park. It is located at the highest point south of the departure of the Helena River from the Darling Scarp on to the Swan Coastal Plain. It is often associated with the railway formation of the Kalamunda Zig Zag and the northernmost high feature of Statham's Quarry, which lie on the north west of the locality within national park land. In 1861, Benjamin Robins purchased of land in the area. In 1878 surveyor Henry Samuel Ranford recorded the name of the eponymous hill as "Gooseberry Hill" ; that name, derived from the presence of cape gooseberries in the area, referred to the Kalamunda area generally in the late 19th century. The Verve
The Verve were an English Rock music, rock band formed in Wigan in 1990 by lead vocalist Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bass guitarist Simon Jones (musician), Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury. Guitarist and keyboard player Simon Tong later became a member in their first reunion only. Teenage Fanclub
Teenage Fanclub are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in Bellshill near Glasgow in 1989. The group were founded by Norman Blake (vocals, guitar), Raymond McGinley (vocals, lead guitar) and Gerard Love (vocals, bass), all of whom shared lead vocals and songwriting duties until Love's departure in 2018. As of 2019, the band's lineup consists of Blake, McGinley, Francis Macdonald (drums, vocals), Dave McGowan (bass, vocals) and Euros Childs (keyboards, vocals). In concert, the band usually alternate among its songwriters, giving equal playing time to each one's songs. Although often pegged as alternative rock, the group have incorporated a wide variety of elements from various music styles in their songs. Highgate is an inner metro suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Vincent and north of the central business district of Perth.
