''The Palace of Angels'' ( pt, O Palácio dos Anjos; french: Le palais des anges) is a 1970 Brazilian-French drama film directed by Walter Hugo Khouri. It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 1970 Cannes Film Festival. Plot Bárbara is a French woman who lives in São Paulo and, with two other friends, decides to transform her apartment into a luxurious brothel (title of the film), with which she obtains money and prestige, but also finds many emotional problems. Walter Hugo Khouri
Walter Hugo Khouri (São Paulo, 21 October 1929 – São Paulo, 27 June 2003) was a Brazilian film director, screenwriter, and producer of Lebanese and Italian descent. Khouri made 25 feature films and won several national and international awards. His 1964 film '' Empty Night'' is considered one of the best Brazilian films of all time and was entered for the Palm d'Or in the 1965 Cannes Film Festival. His films show characters, mostly male, who seek meaning for a distressing existence. He was also known for welcoming and introducing young professionals, being the first director to cast the presenter Xuxa Meneghel in the controversial 1982 film '' Love Strange Love''. Zózimo Bulbul (September 21, 1937 – January 24, 2013) was a Brazilian actor, filmmaker, and activist. Bulbul was a prominent proponent of Afro-Brazilian culture within Brazilian cinema and society at-large. Bulbul co-founded and organized the Encontro de Cinema Negro Brasil, África & Américas, which showcases films featuring African and Afro-Brazilian actors, directors, and themes. Bulbul made his film debut in the 1962 Brazilian motion picture, '' Cinco Vezes Favela''. He went on to star in more than thirty films throughout his career, including ''Quilombo'' and '' Sagarana: The Duel''. Bulbul was also a filmmaker and film director. His best known work was his ''Abolição'', which he released in 1988. Through ''Abolição'', Bulbul explored the 100th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Brazil. John Herbert (actor)
John Herbert (May 17, 1929January 26, 2011) was a Brazilian actor, director and producer. Herbert was born John Herbert Buckup in São Paulo. He appeared in numerous soap operas and telenovelas for Globo TV, making his last appearance in the 2008 series, ''Três Irmãs''. Herbert died from complications of pulmonary emphysema in São Paulo on January 26, 2011, at the age of 81. He had been hospitalized for the condition since January 5, 2011. Herbert was survived by his wife, Claudia Librach, and their two children.
