The Over-the-Hill Gang Rides Again
''The Over-the-Hill Gang Rides Again'' starring Walter Brennan and Fred Astaire is a 1970 ''ABC Movie of the Week'' sequel to the Western comedy ''The Over-the-Hill Gang''. The supporting cast includes Edgar Buchanan, Andy Devine, Chill Wills, Lana Wood, and Burt Mustin (all of whom, except Wood, were in ''The Over-the-Hill Gang''). Like the 1969 original, the sequel involves a group of aging Texas Rangers and was written by Richard Carr and directed by George McCowan. Pat O'Brien had played the second lead in the first film, but his character was left out of the sequel and he was effectively replaced by Astaire, who was not in the original film. Richard Widmark played O'Brien's character in a quasi- remake two decades later entitled ''Once Upon a Texas Train'', in which the Over-the-Hill Gang, with an entirely new cast including Stuart Whitman, played supporting roles to Willie Nelson's train robber. George McCowan
George McCowan (June 27, 1927 – November 1, 1995) was a Canadian film and television director in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. McCowan began his career working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. He worked as an actor and director for several seasons at the Stratford Festival, and moved to the United States in 1967. He directed episodes of '' Charlie's Angels'', ''S.W.A.T.'', and '' Starsky and Hutch'', as well as every episode of the popular Canadian series '' Seeing Things''. He also worked on such shows as ''The Silent Force'', ''The Mod Squad'', ''The Streets of San Francisco'', ''Fantasy Island'', and ''Hart to Hart''. McCowan directed the 1970 TV movie '' Carter's Army'', the 1971 Canadian hockey film ''Face-Off'', the fourth and final Magnificent Seven film, '' The Magnificent Seven Ride!'' in 1972, the cult horror film ''Frogs'' in the same year, and the 1976 film ''Shadow of the Hawk''. The Texas Ranger Division, commonly called the Texas Rangers and also known as ''Los Diablos Tejanos'' (), is an investigative law enforcement agency with statewide jurisdiction in the US state of Texas. Pepper Martin (actor)
Howard Martin (September 20, 1936 – March 18, 2022), known as Pepper Martin, was a Canadian-American actor and professional wrestler. Early life Martin was born in Hamilton, Ontario. In 1944, when he was seven years old, "his parents went out for a night of dinner and dancing at the local Moose Hall. The festivities took place in a second-floor room that became a death trap when an arsonist set fire to the only stairwell. His father wrapped his mother in drapes to protect her and was opening a window that provided access to a nearby tree when the panicked crowd rushed at him and accidentally pushed him out the window and into the tree. The next day, his father sent him and older sister Eileen to an aunt's farm for a week. On the car ride back, he unceremoniously presented them with an article rehashing the gruesome details of that night and conveying the news of their mother's death." Jonathan Hole
Jonathan Hole (August 13, 1904 – February 11, 1998) was an American actor whose entertainment career covered five genres over 50 years. From his early days on the vaudeville stage and in legitimate theater, through radio, television and feature-length films that took his career up to the 1990s, Hole created a variety of characters in hundreds of roles. Early years Hole was born in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Hole. He graduated from North High School in Des Moines and attended Drake University. Career Hole's career began in vaudeville in the 1920s. He further honed his acting skills during 1924–1934 in stage productions in New York.
