The Outsider (A Perfect Circle Song)
"The Outsider" is a song from A Perfect Circle's second album, ''Thirteenth Step''. It was the album's second single, following "Weak and Powerless", and charted on the ''Billboard's'' Hot 100, Mainstream Rock, and Modern Rock charts in 2003. Background It uses a 6/8 and 4/4 time signature. Two remixes of "The Outsider" were made for ''aMOTION''. James Iha made the "Frosted Yogurt mix", which uses a much more toned-down, quiet, synthesized sound than the original. Danny Lohner's "Apocalypse Mix" is a darker, heavier version that starts as an ambient doomscape and ends in a way that resembles a music-playback program crashing. A Perfect Circle is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan. A Perfect Circle has released four studio albums, the first three during the early 2000s: ''Mer de Noms'', their debut album in 2000, and followed up by ''Thirteenth Step'' in 2003; then in 2004, '' Emotive''—an album of radically re-worked cover songs. Shortly after ''Emotive''s release, the band went on hiatus; Keenan returned to Tool and started up solo work under the band name Puscifer, while Howerdel released a solo album, ''Keep Telling Myself It's Alright'', under the moniker Ashes Divide. James Iha
(born March 26, 1968) is an American rock musician. He is best known as a guitarist and co-founder of the alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins. He was a member until the initial breakup in 2000. Among his musical projects of recent years, Iha has been a permanent fixture of A Perfect Circle. He was most recently a member of Tinted Windows, a 1960s/1970s inspired group with members of Cheap Trick, Fountains of Wayne, and Hanson. He rejoined the Smashing Pumpkins in 2018. Iha has produced songs, contributed guitar and vocals, and produced remixes for a number of artists, including Midnight Movies, Isobel Campbell, Marilyn Manson, Whiskeytown, and Michael Stipe. He co-owned Scratchie Records, an independent record label, with Adam Schlesinger, and from 1999-2012 owned a recording studio with Schlesinger and Andy Chase of Ivy called Stratosphere Sound.
