The Other Story (film)
''The Other Story'' is a 2018 Israeli drama film directed by Avi Nesher. It was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. Plot The story follows the wedding planning of two Baalei Teshuva, and the bride's family's plans to sabotage the wedding. The film mainly focuses on the bride's complicated relationship with her father, as well as the divorced parents' relationship with each other. Avi Nesher
Avi Nesher ( Hebrew: אבי נשר; born 13 December 1952) is an Israeli film producer, film director, screenwriter and actor. Biography Avi Nesher was born and raised in Ramat Gan, Israel. The child of a Romanian-born diplomat, and a mother who came from Russia. In 1965, he moved with his family to the United States. He graduated from high school at sixteen and studied international relations at Columbia University. In 1971 he returned to Israel. Nesher enlisted into the IDF elite special forces unit Sayeret Matkal, but after a year was reassigned as an intelligence analyst. Film career In 1978, Nesher directed and produced his first film, ''HaLahaka'' (Hebrew: "הלהקה", lit. ''The Band''), which depicted an army entertainment troupe similar to the Nahal troupe (להקת הנח"ל). Sasson Gabai (or Gabay; he, ששון גבאי; born ) is an Israeli actor. He is the winner of an Ophir Award, Asia Pacific Screen Award (nominated), European Film Awards and Jerusalem Film Festival in 2007 as Best Actor in the highly acclaimed Israeli film ''The Band's Visit''. Biography Gabai was born in 1947 in Baghdad, Iraq, to a Baghdadi Jewish family. During his childhood he immigrated together with his family to Israel. After serving his mandatory military service in the Israel Defense Forces, he studied theater and psychology at the Tel Aviv University. After graduating, he began playing in the Khan Theater in Michael Alfreds group. Yuval Segal ( he, יובל סגל; born 6 December 1971) is an Israeli actor. Biography Personal life Segal was born in Afula, Israel, to a Jewish family. During his childhood his family moved to Kfar Saba. In his youth, he competed in fencing. His grandfather, Eliezer Kagan, was a poet and a translator, and his aunt is the actress T'hia Danon. Nathan Goshen ( he, נתן גושן; born 6 August 1986) is an Israeli singer-songwriter, composer, music arranger, musician and actor. Early life Nathan Goshen was born as Matan Goshen () in Lod, Israel, to Avidan Haim and Tova Goshen and grew up in a secular Jewish family. When Goshen was 14 years old he decided to become religious. He left his home to the Tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar-Yochai, Mount Meron, where he stayed for 3 months. Then, he moved to reside in the Mea Shearim neighborhood, in Jerusalem, Israel. In the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Goshen served as a soldier at the headquarters of the Givati Brigade.
