''The Oil Sharks'' (french: Les requins du pétrole) is a 1933 German drama film directed by Rudolph Cartier and Henri Decoin and starring Arlette Marchal, Vivian Grey and Gabriel Gabrio.Youngkin p. 466 It is the French-language version of ''Invisible Opponent'', made with the same crew but a largely different cast and some alterations to the story line. Rudolph Cartier
Rudolph Cartier (born Rudolph Kacser, renamed himself in Germany to Rudolph Katscher; 17 April 1904 – 7 June 1994) was an Austrian television director, Filmmaking, filmmaker, screenwriter and Film producer, producer who worked predominantly in British television, exclusively for the BBC. He is best known for his 1950s collaborations with screenwriter Nigel Kneale, most notably the ''Bernard Quatermass, Quatermass'' serials and Nineteen Eighty-Four (UK TV programme), their 1954 adaptation of George Orwell's utopian and dystopian fiction, dystopian novel ''Nineteen Eighty-Four''. After studying architecture and then drama, Cartier began his career as a screenwriter and then film director in Berlin, working for Universum Film AG, UFA Studios. After a brief spell in the United States he moved to the United Kingdom in 1935. Raoul Aslan ( hy, Ռաուլ Ասլան, born Tigran Aslanyan, Armenian: Տիգրան Ասլանյան; 16 October 1886 – 17 June 1958) was an Austrian theater actor of Greek-Armenian ancestry. Life Born in Saloniki, Ottoman Empire (now in Greece), Aslan lived in Vienna from 1897 until his death. In 1917 he joined the "Deutsche Volkstheater" in Vienna and was active at the Vienna Burgtheater from 1920 to 1958, where he mainly played classical heroes and complex characters such as Hamlet, Mephisto, Marquis Posa, and Nathan. Erwin Scharf (art Director)
Erwin Scharf (1901–1972) was an Austrian art director. He worked in the German film industry during the Weimar Era, often collaborating with Robert Neppach on set designs. Because of his Jewish heritage he left Germany following the Nazi takeover in 1933, and spent the next five years working in a variety of European countries. This included the 1937 Carol Reed-directed film '' Who's Your Lady Friend?'' in Britain.Evans p.173 In 1938 he settled in the United States.
