''The Ocean and the Sun'' is the third album by experimental rock band The Sound of Animals Fighting. The album features only the four core members that had appeared on both the first and second albums: the Nightingale, the Walrus, the Lynx and The Skunk. The first song, "Intro", is the Persian translation of the English poem "In the Desert" by Stephen Crane. The original (English) version of this poem is printed on the inside jacket of the album. It is also read in English on the eleventh track. The title of the final track, "On the Occasion of Wet Snow", is the title of the second section of Fyodor Dostoevsky's ''Notes from Underground''. The second song, "The Ocean and the Sun", features a reading from the CrimethInc. book '' Days of War, Nights of Love''. The title of the seventh track, "The Heraldic Beak of the Manufacturer's Medallion", is taken from J. G. Ballard's ''Crash''. The Sound Of Animals Fighting
The Sound of Animals Fighting is an American rock supergroup founded by Rich Balling of Rx Bandits. In the band's initial run, they released a trilogy of records between 2004 and 2008, and performed only four live shows, following their second release in 2006. The band's live lineup consisted of 12 different musicians. The band often employed the use of animal masks to conceal their identity. The group was inactive after 2009, with brief spurts of touring in 2014 and 2019, before announcing a new extended play and nationwide US tour in 2022. Matthew Kelly (The Autumns)
Matthew Kraig Kelly is an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, and historian. Kelly is best known for his work with the influential LA rock band The Autumns, which he fronted for more than a decade (1997–2008). He is also a member of the experimental post-punk collective The Sound of Animals Fighting, and the black-metal-inspired Pyramids (album), Pyramids. In addition to his musical output, Kelly is a historian of the modern Middle East. Anthony Green (born April 15, 1982) is an American singer from Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He is currently the lead singer of Circa Survive, Saosin, The Sound of Animals Fighting, and L.S. Dunes, while also maintaining a solo career. He was previously in the bands Audience of One, Jeer at Rome, High and Driving, and Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer. Green is known for his distinctive, high vocal timbre. Career Audience of One Anthony Green's first band formed in 1997 while he was in high school with classmate and musician Tommy Dougherty (Junction 232). The band originally had Dougherty on guitar and Green on bass and vocals. Eventually, they recruited drummer Evan Madden. Christopher Tsagakis (born July 27, 1979) is one of the founding members and current drummer for the band Rx Bandits. He is also a member of The Sound of Animals Fighting, with former bandmate Rich Balling, and has an electronic side project entitled Technology. Chris was recently sponsored by Dark Horse Percussion, and now tours with a custom made four-piece Dark Horse Percussion drum set.
