The Notorious Mrs. Sands
''The Notorious Mrs. Sands'' is a lost 1920 American silent drama film directed by Christy Cabanne and produced by and starring Bessie Barriscale. Plot As described in a film magazine, Mary Ware (Barriscale) and Ronald Cliffe (Stanley) become engaged. While planning their wedding, Mary discovers that her mother is indebted to Grey Sands (Myers), who desires her hand in marriage. Feeling that her duty is to her mother, although despising Grey, Mary breaks her engagement and consents to wed the capitalist with the understanding that affection will not enter into the marriage contract. Being a loveless marriage, she is constantly ill-treated with mean tricks by her husband, who vows that he will make her love him, although he has intimate relations with another woman. He succeeds in partially compromising her with her former sweetheart, and Mary becomes known as the notorious Mrs. Sands. Christy Cabanne
William Christy Cabanne (April 16, 1888 – October 15, 1950) was an American film director, screenwriter, and silent film actor. Biography Born in 1888, Cabanne (pronounced CAB-a-nay) started his career on stage as an actor and director. He appeared on-screen in dozens of short films between 1911 and 1915. He gradually became a film director and in fact one of the more prolific directors of his time (see filmography below). He signed on with the Fine Arts Film Company and was employed as an assistant to D.W. Griffith. Miriam Cooper credited him with discovering her as an extra in 1912. Nicholas Benton "Ben" Alexander III (June 27, 1911 – July 5, 1969) was an American motion picture actor, who started out as a child actor in 1916. He is best remembered for his role as Officer Frank Smith in the ''Dragnet'' franchise. Life and career Ben Alexander was born in Goldfield, Nevada, and raised in California. Alexander made his screen debut at age of five in ''Every Pearl a Tear''. He went on to portray Lillian Gish's young brother in D. W. Griffith's ''Hearts of the World''. After a number of silent films, he retired from screen work, but came back for the World War I classic, ''All Quiet on the Western Front'' (1930), in which Alexander received good notices as an adult actor as "Kemmerick", the tragic amputation victim.
