''The Night the Prowler'' (also known as ''Patrick White's The Night the Prowler'') is a 1978 Australian film written by Patrick White, produced by Anthony Buckley and directed by Jim Sharman. Ruth Cracknell was nominated in 1979 for an AFI Award for Best Actress in a Lead Role for her part. Anthony Buckley AO (born 27 July 1937) is an Australian film editor and producer. Career On leaving school, Buckley went to work for Cinesound Productions as a projectionist and assistant editor. He worked in Canada and Britain before returning to Australia in 1965. It concerns three households, the Pogsons, the Boyles, and the Knotts, in the fictional suburb of Sarsaparilla. This play was written shortly after the first performance of earlier play ''The Ham Funeral'' and while ''Riders in the Chariot'' was being prepared for publication. ''The Season at Sarsaparilla'' premiered in 1962 directed by John Tasker for the Adelaide University Theatre Guild in association with the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust.
