''The New Woody Woodpecker Show'' (titled ''The Woody Woodpecker Show'' on-screen) is an American animated comedy television series based on the Woody Woodpecker (film series), animated short film series created by cartoonist and animator Walter Lantz. It was developed by animator Bob Jaques, and co-developed by and storyboard artist Kelly Armstrong. It was produced by Universal Cartoon Studios and aired from May 8, 1999 to July 27, 2002 on Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox's Fox Kids programming block. It is an updated version of ''The Woody Woodpecker Show'' with characters from the original series and a few new ones appearing in their own segments, in a manner similar to the original ''Looney Tunes'' shorts from Warner Bros. ''The Woody Woodpecker Show'' is a long-running 30-minute American television series mainly composed of the animated cartoon shorts of Woody Woodpecker and other Walter Lantz characters including Andy Panda, Chilly Willy, The Beary Family and Inspector Willoughby released by Walter Lantz Productions. The series was revived and reformatted several times, but remained popular for nearly four decades and allowed the studio to continue making theatrical cartoons until 1972 when it shut down. Buzz Buzzard is a fictional animated character who appeared in several films produced by Walter Lantz Productions in the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. History Buzz is an anthropomorphic common buzzard and scammer making efforts to scam Woody Woodpecker with so many ways to eliminate Woody of money or food. In other appearances, Buzz has been a cowboy, a carnival barker, and a soda jerk yet he still remained a royal pain to Woody. Thomas Sawyer () is the titular character of the Mark Twain novel ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' (1876). The pileated woodpecker (''Dryocopus pileatus'') is a large, mostly black woodpecker native to North America. Chilly Willy
Chilly Willy is a cartoon character, a diminutive penguin. He was created by director Paul Smith for the Walter Lantz studio in 1953, and developed further by Tex Avery in the two subsequent films following Smith's debut entry. The character soon became the second most popular Lantz/Universal character, behind Woody Woodpecker. Fifty Chilly Willy cartoons were produced between 1953 and 1972. Inspiration and Conception Chilly Willy was inspired by mystery writer Stuart Palmer, according to Scott MacGillivray's book ''Castle Films: A Hobbyist's Guide''. Woody Woodpecker is an animated character that appeared in theatrical short films produced by the Walter Lantz Studio and distributed by Universal Studios between 1940 and 1972.
