The New Style (song)
"The New Style" (also known as "It's the New Style") is a song by American rap rock group the Beastie Boys, released as the third single from their debut album ''Licensed to Ill''. The famous "mmm...drop" line from the song was later sampled in other hip hop songs, including The Pharcyde's "Drop (The Pharcyde song), Drop" (1995), OutKast's "Benz or a Beamer", and by the Beastie Boys themselves on their single "Intergalactic (song), Intergalactic" (1998). Furthermore, the opening line was sampled on the tracks "Workinonit" and "The New" by J Dilla, the original mix of "Check Yo Self" by Ice Cube using the phrase "check it" in the chorus, and by the Beastie Boys again on their song "Johnny Ryall" (1989). The "kick it" chorus was sampled at the end of Sublime (band), Sublime's "Let's Go Get Stoned (Sublime song), Let's Go Get Stoned". Beastie Boys
Beastie Boys were an American rap rock group from New York City, formed in 1978. The group was composed of Mike D, Michael "Mike D" Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam Yauch, Adam "MCA" Yauch (vocals, bass), and Ad-Rock, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (vocals, guitar, Programming (music), programming). Beastie Boys were formed out of members of experimental hardcore punk band the Young Aborigines in 1978, with Diamond as vocalist, Jeremy Shatan on bass guitar, John Berry (Beastie Boys), John Berry on guitar, and Kate Schellenbach on drums. When Shatan left in 1981, Yauch replaced him on bass and the band changed their name to Beastie Boys. Berry left shortly thereafter and was replaced by Horovitz. After achieving local success with the 1983 comedy hip hop single "Cooky Puss", Beastie Boys made a full transition to hip hop, and Schellenbach left. "Let's Go Get Stoned" is a song originally recorded by The Coasters in May 1965. It was written by Nickolas Ashford, Valerie Simpson, and Josephine Armstead. Ronnie Milsap recorded it in October 1965 as a B-side to the single, "Never Had It So Good. Ray Charles recording It was a 1966 number one R&B hit for American recording artist Ray Charles. Trouble Funk is an American R&B and funk band from Washington, D.C. The group helped to popularize funk and the subgenre go-go in the Washington metropolitan area. Among the band's well-known songs are the go-go anthem "Hey, Fellas".
