The New Reality (TV Program)
''The New Reality'' is a Canadian television newsmagazine series, which premiered on Global in 2020. The network's return to dedicated newsmagazine programming following the cancellation of ''16×9'' in 2016, the series features long-form investigative and documentary reports. Dawna Friesen, the network's chief anchor on ''Global National'', hosts the program; unlike some newsmagazine series, however, ''The New Reality'' does not have its own dedicated staff, but airs work by all of the Global News team. Global Television Network
The Global Television Network (more commonly called Global, or occasionally Global TV) is a Canadian English-language terrestrial television network. It is currently Canada's second most-watched private terrestrial television network after CTV, and has fifteen owned-and-operated stations throughout the country. Global is owned by Corus Entertainment — the media holdings of JR Shaw and other members of his family. Global has its origins in a regional television station of the same name, serving Southern Ontario, which launched in 1974. The Ontario station was soon purchased by the now-defunct CanWest Global Communications, and that company gradually expanded its national reach in the subsequent decades through both acquisitions and new station launches, building up a quasi-network of independent stations, known as the CanWest Global System, until the stations were unified under the Ontario station's branding in 1997. ''16×9'' (formerly branded as ''16:9'' and ''16:9: The Bigger Picture) is a Canadian investigative newsmagazine television program created by Troy Reeb and Mary Garofalo that aired on Global for eight seasons. The series debuted on November 30, 2008, with Mary Garofalo as host and Senior Consulting Producer until October 2011. Carolyn Jarvis later took over hosting until its cancellation on June 28, 2016. The title refers to the aspect ratio of 16:9 high definition television broadcasts which display a wider area, hence, a bigger picture, as opposed to 4:3 standard definition. Originally airing as a half-hour series, ''16x9'' expanded to an hour-long program for the 2011–12 television season. Dawna Friesen is a Canadian television journalist, currently the chief anchor and executive editor of ''Global National''.L. Global National
''Global National'' is the English language flagship national newscast of Canada's Global Television Network. Editorial and production staff are based out of Global's national news centre at Global BC in Burnaby, British Columbia, with Dawna Friesen presenting from the Global BC studios Mondays to Thursdays, and Farah Nasser presenting from the Global Toronto studios Fridays to Sundays. From 2008 to 2010, the program was the only Canadian network newscast to be regularly anchored from the nation's capital, Ottawa. In addition to Global's owned-and-operated stations (O&Os), ''Global National'' also airs on affiliate CHFD-DT in Thunder Bay, Ontario and independent station CJON-DT in St. John's, Newfoundland. Global News is the news and current affairs division of the Canadian Global Television Network. The network is owned by Corus Entertainment, which oversees all of the network's national news programming as well as local news on its 21 owned-and-operated stations. ''ET Canada'' (previously referred to as ''Entertainment Tonight Canada'') is a Canadian entertainment news television series, using the same format as the American entertainment newsmagazine ''Entertainment Tonight''.
