The New Music
''The NewMusic'' was a weekly music and culture television newsmagazine that aired on the Canadian television stations owned by CHUM Limited: MuchMusic, MuchMoreMusic, Citytv, A-Channel and CP24. Created by John Martin, and intended to combine the spirit of magazines like ''Rolling Stone'' and ''New Musical Express'' with the format of a television newsmagazine, ''The NewMusic'' presented current popular music in a broad social, political and economic context. It won an Iris Award in 1984. The series was cancelled in 2008 amid ownership changes: the CHUM Limited properties were sold to CTVglobemedia (now Bell Media) a year prior in 2007, whilst the Citytv stations were acquired by Rogers Media the same year. A news magazine is a typed, printed, and published magazine, radio or television program, usually published weekly, consisting of articles about current events. Jeanne Beker
Jeanne Beker, (; born 19 March 1952) is a Canadian television personality, fashion editor, and author. Family Jeanne Beker was born in Toronto, Ontario to father Joseph Beker and mother Bronia Beker, two Jewish Holocaust survivors born in Kozova, Poland (now in Ukraine) who immigrated to Canada from a displaced persons camp in Austria. Jeanne was previously (from 1986 to 1998) married to Toronto radio personality Bob Magee, but is now divorced. They have two daughters together. 2112 (album)
''2112'' (pronounced "twenty-one twelve") is the fourth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released on 1 April 1976 (or March 1976, according to some sources) by Anthem Records. Rush finished touring for their unsuccessful previous album ''Caress of Steel'' in early 1976. The band was in financial hardship due to the album's disappointing sales, unfavourable critical reception, and a decline in attendance at its shows. The band's international label, Mercury Records, considered dropping Rush but granted the band one more album following negotiations with manager Ray Danniels. Though the label demanded more commercial material, the band decided to continue developing its progressive rock sound. ''2112'' was recorded in February 1976 in Toronto with regular producer Terry Brown. Rush (band)
Rush was a Canadian rock band formed in 1968 in Toronto, that was comprised primarily of Geddy Lee (bass, vocals), Alex Lifeson (guitar), and Neil Peart (drums, percussion, lyricist). The band formed in Toronto in 1968 by Lifeson, drummer John Rutsey, and bass guitarist/vocalist Jeff Jones, who was immediately replaced by Lee. After Lee joined, the band went through several lineup configurations before arriving at its classic power trio lineup with the addition of Peart in July 1974, who replaced Rutsey four months after the release of their 1974 self-titled debut album; this lineup remained intact for the remainder of the band's career. Denise Donlon
Denise Anne Donlon, (born 22 February 1956) is a Canadian business executive, television producer, author, public speaker, host, and member of the Order of Canada. Born in Toronto, Ontario, she joined MuchMusic in 1985 as a host and producer of ''The NewMusic''. In 1992, she became the director of music programming, and was named vice-president and general manager in 1997 where she was responsible for programming direction and successfully launched MuchMoreMusic in 1998. From 2000 to 2004, she was the president of Sony Music Canada where she led the company and a team of over 300 employees. On 17 September 2008, Donlon was named executive director of CBC Radio's English-language services. She left the CBC in August 2011 and was succeeded by her 2nd in command, Chris Boyce.
