The Nest (1927 Film)
''The Nest'' is a 1927 American silent drama film directed by William Nigh starring Pauline Frederick and Holmes Herbert. The screenplay by Charles E. Whittaker is based on the play ''Les noces d'argent'' by Paul Géraldy. Plot A mother discovers her daughter Susan is marrying an insufferable social-climber. Already horrified by the idea, she also finds out her son Martin has gone into a life of crime. She decides to head to Paris to forget about her domestic troubles. She marries Richard Elliot, the executor of her late husband's estate. William Nigh
William Nigh (October 12, 1881 – November 27, 1955) was an American film director, writer, and actor. His film work sometimes lists him as either "Will Nigh" or "William Nye". Biography Nigh was born Emil Kreuske''Silent Film Necrology'', p. 393 2nd edition c.2001 by Eugene Michael Vazzana in Berlin, Wisconsin. He began his film career as an actor, appearing in 17 films in 1913 and 1914; he also directed one of these, ''Salomy Jane''. He acted in eight more films in the 1910s and two more in the 1920s, but he is known mainly as a director, and an extremely prolific one at that, with a total output of 119 films, the last in 1948. Thomas J. Holding (25 January 1880 – 4 May 1929) was a British-born stage and film actor. Biography Born in England in 1880, Holding possibly had an extensive stage career in his native Britain before arriving in the United States. He was popular in American silent films during the World War I years. His first films were in several features starring the actress Pauline Frederick. She was perhaps best known as the estranged wife of silent film star Rudolph Valentino. Early life and career Jean Acker was born Harriet Ackers on October 23, 1892 in Trenton, New Jersey to Joseph and Margaret Ackers. The 1900 census indicates an 1891 birthdate, and other sources have suggested an 1893 birthdate. However, her burial plot says 1892. Her parents divorced, and her father remarried to Eleanor Bruseren in 1906. They had two sons together, both named Joseph. Their first son died at 4 months old in 1907, and their second son was a stillbirth. Eleanor and Joseph divorced in 1912, and he remarried a third time to Virginia Erb. Ruth Dwyer (actress)
Ruth Dwyer (January 25, 1898 – March 2, 1978) was an American film actress. She had a number of starring roles in the silent era, most famously as Buster Keaton's leading lady in ''Seven Chances'' (1925). Dwyer mostly retired in 1928 and played a number of uncredited roles in sound films, but retired from the film business completely in the 1940s. Dwyer's entertainment career began with her working as a dancer in New York. Her performance in the chorus line in an off-Broadway production in 1919 led to her going to Hollywood. Her film debut came in the serial ''The Evil Eye''. Dwyer was married to actor and talent agent William Jackie until his death in 1954. They operated the Ruth Dwyer Agency in San Francisco, helping people obtain parts in films and television shows. Dwyer died on March 2, 1978, at the Motion Picture Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California.
