Naked eye, also called bare eye or unaided eye, is the practice of engaging in visual perception unaided by a magnifying, light-collecting optical instrument, such as a telescope or microscope, or eye protection. Vision corrected to normal acuity using corrective lenses is still considered "naked". In astronomy, the naked eye may be used to observe celestial events and objects visible without equipment, such as conjunctions, passing comets, meteor showers, and the brightest asteroids, including 4 Vesta. Sky lore and various tests demonstrate an impressive variety of phenomena visible to the unaided eye. ''Naked Eye Magazine'' was a Canadian entertainment and lifestyle publication distributed by Brand U Media on a quarterly, and then biannual basis. The magazine was published between 1999 and 2010 with interruptions. Overview ''Naked Eye'' magazine's publicly stated primary mandate was to "celebrate Canadian culture by covering national talent with a global perspective". The magazine focused on both Canadian and international celebrities and trends. The magazine originally launched in Montreal, Quebec, under XMMA promoter and publisher (and then editor) Burton Rice in 1999 but folded in under a year. It was relaunched as a quarterly in Fall 2007 then was published biannually for its last two issues in 2010. The target reader group of the magazine was people aged between 18 and 35. "Naked Eye" is a song by American alternative rock band Luscious Jackson, released as the first single from their second album, ''Fever In Fever Out'' (1996). It was released on CD and 12-inch, both of which feature three remixes and an instrumental version of the song as well as two non- LP tracks. The song peaked at 18 on the US ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 36 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. To date it is the band's only top-40 hit in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 25 on the UK Singles Chart. Background In a 1997 interview with ''Billboard'', singer Jill Cunniff explained that the song is about being emotionally naked, or honest, rather than naked as in without clothing. "Naked Eye" is a song by The Who, written by Pete Townshend. The studio version was released on the group's 1974 compilation album '' Odds and Sods'' (reissued in 1998). Live versions appear on '' Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970'', ''View from a Backstage Pass'', ''Greatest Hits Live'', ''Thirty Years of Maximum R&B'', and both reissues of ''Who's Next''. Background One of the main chord progressions in "Naked Eye" can be traced to the spring and summer of 1969 when the band was touring in support of the ''Tommy'' album. The three-chord riff (F6/9-Cadd9-G) was sometimes played during the group's very long and improvised versions of " Magic Bus" at that time, then later in expanded jams during "My Generation", as heard in the ''Live at Leeds'' version. ''The Naked Eye'' ( es, La Mirada del Otro) is a 1998 Spanish film, written and directed by Vicente Aranda adapted from a novel by Fernando G. Delgado. It stars Laura Morante, Miguel Ángel García and José Coronado. The film is an erotic psychodrama, an exploration of female sexual desire. It premiered at the 48th Berlin International Film Festival in 1998 where it was nominated for the Golden Bear. Desmond Morris
Desmond John Morris FLS ''hon. caus.'' (born 24 January 1928) is an English zoologist, ethologist and surrealist painter, as well as a popular author in human sociobiology. He is known for his 1967 book ''The Naked Ape'', and for his television programmes such as ''Zoo Time''. Early life Morris was born in Purton, Wiltshire, to Marjorie (née Hunt) and children's fiction author Harry Morris. In 1933, the Morrises moved to Swindon where Desmond developed an interest in natural history and writing. He was educated at Dauntsey's School, a boarding school in Wiltshire. In 1946, Morris joined the British Army for two years of national service, becoming a lecturer in fine arts at the Chiseldon Army College in Wiltshire. After being demobilised in 1948, he held his first one-man show of his own paintings at the Swindon Arts Centre, and studied zoology at the University of Birmingham. Naked Eyes are an English new wave band"All Eyes on Pete Byrne", ''Newsday'', 15 October 2013 that rose to prominence in the early 1980s. The band had four US top 40 singles. The group's first hit, "Always Something There to Remind Me", was a cover of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David standard. The band had subsequent hits with more of their own compositions, " Promises, Promises", "When the Lights Go Out", and "(What) In the Name of Love". History Naked Eyes was formed by Pete Byrne and Rob Fisher. The two had formerly been part of a band called Neon, with future members of Tears for Fears. Naked Eyes were one of the first bands to make significant use of the Fairlight CMI sampling synthesizer on a recording.
