Timothy Burstall AM (20 April 1927 – 19 April 2004) was an English Australian film director, writer and producer, best known for hit Australian movie ''Alvin Purple'' (1973) and its sequel ''Alvin Rides Again''. Burstall's films featured early appearances by many legendary Australian actors including Jack Thompson, Bruce Spence, Jacki Weaver, ''Alvin'' star Graeme Blundell, John Waters and Judy Davis. Speaking just after Burstall's death, David Williamson said that Burstall "couldn't stomach" Australia's lack of a film industry. "He was determined to do something about it and he had the energy and spirit to do it. George Englund
George Englund (June 22, 1926 – September 14, 2017) was an American film editor, director, producer, and actor. Biography Englund was born George Howe Ripley in Washington, D.C., the son of actress Mabel Albertson and Harold Austin Ripley. His uncle was actor Jack Albertson. After his parents divorced, his mother married Ken Englund, whose surname young George adopted. Englund was married to actress Cloris Leachman from 1953 to 1979. They had five children: Adam, Bryan (died 1986), George, Jr., Morgan and Dinah. His mother was Jewish. On April 10, 1980, he married actress Bonnie Graves. They had two children: Graves and Max (died 1993). The couple divorced in 1992. The Queensland Film Corporation (QFC) was a government-funded film production company that existed in the state of Queensland, Australia, in the 1980s. History The Queensland Film Corporation was established by the ''Queensland Film Industry Development Act 1977'' and funded by the Queensland Government Its original brief was not to produce films but to encourage the development of the film industry in Queensland. At one stage it was run by Allan Callaghan, former press officer to Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen who was sent to gaol for misappropriating government funds. Produced in Sydney, it was distributed around Australia, containing news, reviews, interviews, articles and some gossip on the local film community. It ran from February 1975, from government startup grants over 1973–74, to 1995. History ''Filmnews'' first issue appeared in February 1975. Published in St Peters' Lane, Darlinghurst, Filmnews began as a newsletter with screening and meeting information and catalogue of the Sydney Filmmakers Co-op.
