Fred Allen (film Editor)
Fred Allen (December 16, 1896 – May 22, 1955) was an American film editor, and occasional director and writer. Born in Petaluma, California, Allen was active from 1921 through 1955, and is credited with editing over 100 movies. In silent films, he worked with Mack Sennett and Thomas H. Ince, and appears to be most active at Republic Pictures and RKO Radio Pictures. His seven directorial credits are all Westerns. Pre-Code Hollywood was the brief era in the Cinema of the United States, American film industry between the widespread adoption of sound in film in 1929LaSalle (2002), p. 1. and the enforcement of the Motion Picture Production Code censorship guidelines, popularly known as the "Hays Code", in mid-1934. Niles Eugene Welch (July 29, 1888 – November 21, 1976) was an American performer on Broadway, and a leading man in a number of silent and early talking motion pictures from the early 1910s through the 1930s. Early life A native of Hartford, Connecticut, after graduating from ''St. Paul's School'', Welch attended Yale and Columbia University. Later he joined a stock company, and from there toured the U.S. in vaudeville. The first film he worked in was ''The Stranger in Grey'' with the Eastern Vitagraph Studios. Career After spending four years on the legitimate stage, Welch started his screen career appearing with World Film Corporation, Universal, Pathé Studios and Goldwyn Pictures. Clarence Hummel Wilson (November 17, 1876 – October 5, 1941) was an American character actor. Career Wilson appeared in nearly 200 movies between 1920 and 1941, mostly in supporting roles as an old miser or grouch. He had supporting roles in films like ''The Front Page'' (1931; as Sheriff Pinky), ''Ruggles of Red Gap'' (1935) and '' You Can't Take It With You'' (1938). Wilson also played in several ''Our Gang'' comedies, most notably as Mr. Crutch in ''Shrimps for a Day'' and school board chairman Alonzo Pratt in '' Come Back, Miss Pipps'', his final film. Death Wilson died on October 5, 1941, and he was interred at Grand View Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California. Sherwood Bailey
Sherwood Bailey (August 6, 1923 – August 6, 1987) was an American child actor and civil engineer. His parents were nonprofessionals. He is most noted for appearing as Spud, the red-headed, freckle-faced bad boy and enemy of the gang in the '' Our Gang'' short subjects series from 1931 to 1932. Spud was characterized as the mama's-boy type who got away with everything and who also liked the girls a lot. Bailey's most notable appearance was that of the spoiled, bratty stepbrother of Wheezer and Dorothy in 1931's '' Dogs Is Dogs''. In that short, he is nearly convinced by Stymie that ham and eggs can talk and is later pushed down a well by his own dog, Nero. Bailey left the Our Gang series in 1932 at the age of nine.
