Eels (band)
Eels (often typeset as eels or EELS) is an American Rock music, rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1991 by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Oliver Everett, known by the stage name E. Band members have changed over the years, both in the studio and on stage, making Everett the only official member for most of the band's work. Eels' music is often filled with themes of family, death, and unrequited love. Since 1996, Eels has released fourteen studio albums, seven of which charted in the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200. History E solo records In 1991, Everett signed a contract with Polydor and released ''A Man Called E'' under the name E a year later. The single "Hello Cruel World" was a minor success. Touring to support the album, E opened for Tori Amos. ''A Man Called E'' was followed by ''Broken Toy Shop'' in 1993. Michael Simpson (producer)
Michael Simpson, also known as "E.Z. Mike", is an American record producer. Along with John King, he makes up one-half of the Los Angeles-based producing duo the Dust Brothers, who co-wrote and produced many critically acclaimed records including the Beastie Boys' ''Paul's Boutique'' and Beck's ''Odelay''. He won a Grammy Award for his song writing & production on Santana's '' Supernatural'' album in 1999. He has also done producing on his own - most notable is his work with the Eels. Simpson went on to compose the scores for the films '' Road Trip'', ''Saving Silverman'', ''Freddy Got Fingered'' and ''Stick It'', where in addition to composing the original score, he teamed up with rapper Talib Kweli to produce and perform the song "Abra Cadabra". Peter Buck
Peter Lawrence Buck (born December 6, 1956) is an American musician and songwriter. He was a co-founder and the lead guitarist of the alternative rock band R.E.M. He also plays the banjo and mandolin on several R.E.M. songs. Throughout his career with R.E.M. (1980–2011), as well as during his subsequent solo career, Buck has also been at various times an official member of numerous 'side project' groups. These groups included Arthur Buck (with Joseph Arthur), Hindu Love Gods, The Minus 5, Tuatara, The Baseball Project, Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3, Tired Pony, The No-Ones and Filthy Friends, each of which have released at least one full-length studio album. Daisies Of The Galaxy
''Daisies of the Galaxy'' is the third studio album by American rock band Eels. It was released on February 28, 2000, in the United Kingdom and March 14 in the United States by record label DreamWorks. Production When the band's label requested that a clean version of "It's a Motherfucker" be recorded, the song was re-written as "It's a Monster Trucker", with modified lyrics and sound clips of lead singer Mark Oliver "E" Everett speaking "trucker lingo" on a CB radio. Release ''Daisies of the Galaxy'' reached number eight in the UK Albums Chart. The single " Mr. E's Beautiful Blues" peaked at number 11 in the UK Singles Chart; the second single to be released from the album, "Flyswatter", charted at number 55. Reception ''Daisies of the Galaxy'' received a generally favorable response from critics. Grant-Lee Phillips
Grant-Lee Phillips (born Bryan G. Phillips; September 1, 1963) is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He led the group Grant Lee Buffalo in the 1990s, afterwards launching a solo career. He features as the town troubadour in ''Gilmore Girls''. Background Born in Stockton, California, Phillips began playing the guitar in his early teens. At age 19, he moved to Los Angeles where he worked tarring roofs to fund evening classes at UCLA and forming bands. T Bone Burnett
Joseph Henry "T Bone" Burnett III (born January 14, 1948) is an American record producer, guitarist and songwriter. He rose to fame as a guitarist in Bob Dylan's band during the 1970s. He has received multiple Grammy awards for his work in film music, including for ''O Brother, Where Art Thou?'' Jon Brion is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and composer. He performed with the Excerpts, the Bats, 'Til Tuesday and the Grays before becoming an established producer and film score composer. ''Electro-Shock Blues'' is the second studio album by American Rock music, rock band Eels (band), Eels. It was released in the United Kingdom on September 21, 1998, and October 20 in the United States by record label DreamWorks Records, DreamWorks. Background and content ''Electro-Shock Blues'' was written largely in response to frontman Mark Oliver Everett, Mark Oliver "E" Everett's sister Elizabeth's suicide and his mother's terminal lung cancer. The title refers to the electroconvulsive therapy received by Elizabeth Everett when she was involuntary commitment, institutionalized. Tommy Walter
Thomas Edward Walter (born October 30, 1970) is an American musician and songwriter, best known for his alternative rock band, Abandoned Pools, as well as being the former bassist and one of the founding members of Eels. Early years and the Eels Tommy Walter was raised in Westlake Village. His father was an airplane pilot; his mother a stewardess. His father is from Canada, and was almost 47 when Tommy was born. He grew up in a modest, middle-class household. He began playing bass at a young age, and was formally trained on the French horn in college. Jonathan Norton
Jonathan Hayes "Butch" Norton (born March 21, 1958) is an American drummer, percussionist and vocalist, best known for his work with the Los Angeles-based indie rock band Eels between 1996 and 2003. Since his departure from the group, he has gone on to work with notable musicians like Fiona Apple, Tracy Chapman, Lisa Germano, Aimee Mann, Michael Miller, Michael Penn, Rufus Wainwright, and Lucinda Williams. Biography Early life Norton was raised in the San Francisco Bay area, and began studying the drums at a young age.
