''The Mighty Bulldogs'' is an Australian social and sporting history DVD series about the Canterbury-Bankstown District Rugby League Football Club, better known as The Bulldogs. The series was financed by Canterbury Leagues Club for the football club and produced by Richard Bradley Productions. The producer on behalf of the production company was Richard Bradley and Phil Pellizzeri acted as associate producer and executive producer on behalf of the football club. Production Production of the four-part series initially commenced in 2000 with the filming of the most senior players from foundation period in 1935 including Eddie Burns and Joe Gartner. Along with these interviews a key interview was also filmed with Peter "Bullfrog" Moore, the famous Secretary and CEO of the football club only a few weeks before he passed away in 2000. Richard Bradley (film Producer)
Richard Bradley (born 1949) is an Australian film producer and publicist working through his company Richard Bradley Productions which was established in 1981. Early life Richard Bradley grew up in North Sydney. After leaving school in 1964 he joined the Sydney Morning Herald as a copyboy and then moved onto Shipping Newspapers where he completed his apprenticeship as a compositor in 1970. During this time he became more interested in film production. Early film career In 1972 he started making short films which enabled him to work in the industry full-time. He was also commissioned to produce music clips and short documentaries. Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Belmore, a suburb in the Canterbury-Bankstown region of Sydney. They compete in the NRL Telstra Premiership, as well as competitions facilitated by the New South Wales Rugby League, including the Canterbury Cup NSW, the Jersey Flegg Cup, Harvey Norman Women's Premiership, Tarsha Gale Cup, S. G. Ball Cup and the Harold Matthews Cup. The club was admitted to the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership, predecessor of the current NRL competition, in 1935. Eddie Burns
Eddie Burns (16 January 1916 – 30 June 2004) was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach of the mid 20th century. A New South Wales representative prop-forward, he played for the Canterbury-Bankstown club of the NSWRFL Premiership, later becoming their coach. Playing career While still a teenager, Burns played in the Canterbury-Bankstown club's first ever season in 1935 and was sent off in his first match. He played for 16 seasons in First Grade from 1935 to 1950. Eddie Burns played 212 first grade games and scored 196 career points in his long career. He won two premierships with Canterbury-Bankstown in 1938 and 1942. In 1948, Burns was selected to represent New South Wales playing 2 games. He retired in 1950 as the Canterbury club's top ever try-scorer, with 60, a record not bettered until Chris Anderson in 1978. Burns is the 16th player to represent Canterbury-Bankstown. Joe Gartner
Joseph Samuel Gartner (1912–2002) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and was a dual premiership winner. Playing career Gartner was graded with Newtown in 1931 and went straight into first grade. Gartner was a prolific try scorer during his career and usually played on the wing. He played five seasons with Newtown between 1931 and 1935, which included winning a premiership with them in 1933. He then moved to Canterbury-Bankstown and played six seasons with them between 1936 and 1941. He won a further premiership with Canterbury in 1938 and he scored two tries in that match. He was the father of another Canterbury-Bankstown legend, Ray Gartner. Peter "Bullfrog" Moore
Peter Sydney "Bullfrog" Moore OAM (1932 – 5 July 2000) was an Australian rugby league administrator, particularly associated with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, where he was Chief Executive from 1969 to 1995, serving a record 26 years at the helm. The Canterbury club won four grand finals during his time as its CEO, and he was largely considered responsible for fostering the proud "family" culture for which the club became renowned. Career Moore was a local newsagency owner in the Sydney suburb of Belmore before arriving at Canterbury-Bankstown in 1969. Nicknamed "Bullfrog" due to the amphibious appearance of his head, Moore undertook what was known as the "reformation" of the Canterbury club and shaped the club for the success it was to enjoy throughout the 1980s. Super League War
The Super League war was a commercial competition between the Australian Rugby League (ARL) and the Australian Super League to establish pre-eminence in professional rugby league competition in Australia and New Zealand in the mid-1990s. Super League, backed by Rupert Murdoch and News Corporation, competed with the ARL, supported by Kerry Packer and Optus Vision, in and out of court for broadcasting rights and supremacy in the sport. Super League had attracted several clubs disenchanted with the existing administration, and introduced two new clubs, as it attempted to establish itself as the dominant competition. After much legal action, when the ARL tried to block the new league, Super League ran one season parallel to the ARL's in 1997. The Mighty Eels is an Australian social and sporting history DVD series about Parramatta District Rugby League Football Club, better known as the Eels. The series was financed by Parramatta Leagues Club and produced by Richard Bradley Productions. The producer on behalf of the production company was Richard Bradley, and Denis Fitzgerald who was CEO of Parramatta Leagues Club acted as associate producer on behalf of the Leagues Club. Production of the four-part series commenced in February 2003 and was completed in September 2006.
