The Michael Players
The Michael Players are the oldest existing body of performers of Manx dialect theatre in the Isle of Man. They are centrally important to the continued tradition of Manx dialect theatre, both through their performances and in their unique collection of Manx plays. History Although it is not known when the Michael Players were first formed, a group in Kirk Michael were performing Manx dialect plays or sketches at least as early as the 1930s. A group were performing again after the war by 1948, but the Michael Players made their first full "revived" performance in 1954. This performance was organised by Miss Mary Cannell as an entertainment for the Manx branch of the Celtic Congress in Michael School following a tour of Bishopscourt. Cannell instituted the annual "Oie'll Verree" entertainment finishing in the Michael Players' performance of a Manx dialect play. Mona Douglas
Mona Douglas (18 September 1898 – 8 October 1987) was a Manx cultural activist, folklorist, poet, novelist and journalist. She is recognised as the main driving force behind the modern revival of Manx culture and is acknowledged as the most influential Manx poet of the 20th century,'Literature in English since 1900' by Martin Faragher, in ''A New History of the Isle of Man, Volume V: The Modern Period, 1830 – 1999'', Liverpool: Liverpool University Press, 2000, p. 337 but she is best known for her often controversial work to preserve and revive traditional Manx folk music and dance. She was involved in a great number of initiatives to revive interest and activity in Manx culture, including societies, classes, publications and youth groups. John Joseph Kneen
John Joseph Kneen (12 September 1873 – 21 November 1938) was a Manx linguist and scholar renowned for his seminal works on Manx grammar and on the place names and personal names of the Isle of Man. He is also a significant Manx dialect playwright and translator of Manx poetry. He is commonly best known for his translation of the Manx National Anthem into Manx. Youth Kneen was born on 12 September 1873, in Hanover Street, Douglas, Isle of Man. He was the son of John Kneen, a postman originally from Kirk Andreas, and Hannah Crebbin, of the Santon family of Ballakelly. He was educated at St. George's School, Douglas, where he developed an early interest in the study of Manx Gaelic. He was encouraged in this interest by his parents, who were able to pass onto him a good deal of traditional knowledge.

The Charm (play)
''The Charm'' is a comic one-act Manx dialect play by Christopher R. Shimmin. It was first performed in 1912 by the Peel Players and it is considered to be one of the earliest and most frequently performed pieces in the Manx dialect repertoire. Background From 1908 Sophia Morrison had been producing Manx dialect theatre at Manx Language Society entertainments in Peel. These had been written by Cushag and John Quine initially, but in 1912 Sophia Morrison commissioned Christopher Shimmin to write the plays.'Shiaght Laa' interview

Juan Noa
Juan Noa was the pen-name of John Henry Cleator, a Manx dialect poet and playwright active from the 1920s to the 1960s in the Isle of Man. Life Cleator ran the family drapery business, located at 24 Parliament Street, Ramsey. He was married, to Hilda Vondy, and lived at Claughbane. He was a member of the Guild Committee and served on the Ramsey Commissioners for many years. After his retirement, Cleator made frequent trips to visit family in Chicago. It was whilst in America in December 1962 that he fell ill. He returned by air to the Isle of Man and was transferred on a stretcher from the aeroplane to Noble's Hospital where he died three weeks later on 2 January 1963. Poetry Cleator’s first published poem, 'A Story that's Thrue of a Moddey Dhoo,' appeared in the Ramsey Courier in May 1927 when it appeared under the pen-name of 'Juan Thubm Billy-yn-Clayragh Jonnie.' Kathleen Faragher
Kathleen Faragher (1904–1974) was the most significant and prolific Manx dialect writer of the mid twentieth century. She is best known for her poems first published in the '' Ramsey Courier'' and collected into five books published between 1955 and 1967. She was also a prolific short story writer and playwright. Her work is renowned for its humour born of a keen observation of Manx characters, and for its evocative portrayal of the Isle of Man and its people.
