The Metro Schools are a semi-public network of three schools located in Columbus, Ohio, United States, on Ohio State University's campus: Metro Early College High School (MECHS), and Metro Middle School (MECMS). The Metro Institute of Technology, the third branch of the school, closed in 2017. The Metro School
The Metro Early College High School is a semi-public, non-charter privately funded high school located in Columbus, Ohio; on the campus of Ohio State University. It is also a part of the Metro Schools, along with the Metro Middle School. The Metro Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) was another branch of the school, but was closed in 2017. Educational Standards Because of the nature of Metro, all credits are awarded using a mastery-based grading scale. Mastery is achieved by holding a 90% or higher on (depending on the course) specific mastery assignments and tests, the entire course as an average, or every single assignment given in the course. Anything below mastery is called a WIP, or work-in-progress. Students not meeting the 90% benchmark in a mastery assignment are able to remediate and retake the assignment. Indianola Junior High School
Indianola Junior High School is a historic school building located on 19th Avenue in Columbus, Ohio. The building opened in 1929 after the school moved out of its previous location on 16th Avenue. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The school, founded at its previous location in 1909, was the first junior high school in the United States. Organization and history Early history In the early 1900s, there was support for marking more of a transition from elementary to secondary education. The Indianola school was the first school to be designed as a separate junior high school, incorporating what was then the last two years of elementary school with the first years of high school.
