''The Man Who Stayed at Home'' is a 1919 American silent adventure drama film directed by Herbert Blaché and starring King Baggot, Claire Whitney. It was based on the play '' The Man Who Stayed at Home'' by J. E. Harold Terry and Lechmere Worrall. Plot Set in Virginia 1918, German spies passing information on American coastal defences are thwarted by Christopher Brent (Baggot) who is working for the secret service. Claire Whitney
Claire Whitney (May 6, 1890 – August 27, 1969) was an American stage and film actress who appeared in 111 films between 1912 and 1949. Only 21 of these films survive, as most have been lost. Whitney gained early acting experience with a stock theater company in Massachusetts, following which she toured the United States in a vaudeville production of ''Little Mother''. Whitney made her first film in 1913 for Solax and continued making films until 1921, mainly for Fox Film Corporation. Whitney came back to films in 1926 with a role in ''The Great Gatsby'' which would be her final silent film. She continued working in film between 1931 and 1949 when she retired. Whitney's Broadway credits include ''Broadway Interlude'' (1934), ''Page Pygmalion'' (1932), ''An Innocent Idea'' (1920), and ''The Net'' (1919). Julia Calhoun
Julia Calhoun (born 1870) was an American actress during the silent film era. She appeared on stage and in comedy films including early ones with Oliver Hardy from at least 1914 on into the 1920s. Calhoun was born February 1870 in Philadelphia. She was one of the performers featured in a series of cabinet cards published by Newsboy Tobacco Company for advertising purposes. The New York Public Library has a photograph of her in its Billy Rose Theatre Collection. She was part of C. C. Field Film Company's Miami, Florida studio cast. She was married to fellow performer Kirkland Calhoun. His death made her a widow by 1914.
