Magazines
A magazine is a periodical publication, generally published on a regular schedule (often weekly or monthly), containing a variety of content. They are generally financed by advertising, purchase price, prepaid subscriptions, or by a combination of the three. Definition In the technical sense a '' journal'' has continuous pagination throughout a volume. Thus ''Business Week'', which starts each issue anew with page one, is a magazine, but the '' Journal of Business Communication'', which continues the same sequence of pagination throughout the coterminous year, is a journal. Some professional or trade publications are also peer-reviewed, for example the '' Journal of Accountancy''. Non-peer-reviewed academic or professional publications are generally ''professional magazines''. Academic Journal
An academic journal or scholarly journal is a periodical publication in which scholarship relating to a particular academic discipline is published. Academic journals serve as permanent and transparent forums for the presentation, scrutiny, and discussion of research. They nearly-universally require peer-review or other scrutiny from contemporaries competent and established in their respective fields. Content typically takes the form of articles presenting original research, review articles, or book reviews. The purpose of an academic journal, according to Henry Oldenburg (the first editor of ''Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society''), is to give researchers a venue to "impart their knowledge to one another, and contribute what they can to the Grand design of improving natural knowledge, and perfecting all Philosophical Arts, and Sciences." Numismatics
Numismatics is the study or collection of currency, including coins, tokens, paper money, medals and related objects. Specialists, known as numismatists, are often characterized as students or collectors of coins, but the discipline also includes the broader study of money and other means of payment used to resolve debts and exchange goods. The earliest forms of money used by people are categorised by collectors as "Odd and Curious", but the use of other goods in barter exchange is excluded, even where used as a circulating currency (e.g., cigarettes or instant noodles in prison). As an example, the Kyrgyz people used horses as the principal currency unit, and gave small change in lambskins; the lambskins may be suitable for numismatic study, but the horses are not. Many objects have been used for centuries, such as cowry shells, precious metals, cocoa beans, large stones, and gems. China Numismatic Society
The China Numismatic Society ( zh, c=中国钱币学会, p=Zhōngguó qiánbì xuéhuì) is a society focusing on numismatics in the People's Republic of China, with its secretariat in the China Numismatic Museum in Beijing. About The China Numismatic Society (CNS) was founded in 1982. It is a non-governmental academic organization registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs. It is a full member of International Numismatic Commission (INC). Numismatic Society Of India
The Numismatic Society of India (NSI) is the foremost numismatic society in India. It was founded in 1910 by a group of (mainly) expatriate Englishmen associated with British rule in India. The founding members were Rev. G.P. Taylor, Sir Richard Burn, H.R. Nevil, H.N. Wright, R.B. Whitehead and Framji Thanawala. The first President was Sir John Stanley, Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. R. B. Whitehead was the first Honorary Fellow of the Numismatic Society of India. Swiss Numismatic Society
The Swiss Numismatic Society (SNS ; ''Schweizerische Numismatische Rundschau'' in German) was founded in 1879 and is a registered non-profit organization. It is the overall Swiss association of individuals and institutions with an interest in ancient and modern numismatics. SNS is a learned society and promotes research into all branches of numismatics. Foremost researchers and collectors, both professional and amateur, in the field of numismatics are amongst the members of the Society. Publications Its principal publication is the ''British Numismatic Journal'', (published from 1903) commonly abbreviated to "BNJ" in academic references. Back issues of BNJ are free to read online, apart from the most recent three years' editions. The BNS publishes the separate books (especially catalogues of coins) and some serial publications. Library The BNS has the library combined and integrated with the library of the Royal Numismatic Society and located at the Warburg Institute. Membership Becoming a member of the British Numismatic Society is open to all for a £15 fee that covers the first two years of membership. Members have access to the Society's literature on coins and receive a copy of its annual journal.
