''The Long Shadow'' is a seven-part British true crime drama television series, written by George Kay and directed by Lewis Arnold. The series details the five-year manhunt for the serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, commonly referred to as The Yorkshire Ripper. The series began airing on ITV1 on 25 September 2023. The drama is the fourteenth in a series of ITV mini-series and series, featuring notorious British murder cases of the past two centuries. Cast Episodes Production Screenwriter George Kay used the Michael Bilton 2003 book ''Wicked Beyond Belief'' combined with case files, interview transcripts, and police reports, to pen the series. The series is produced by New Pictures for ITVX and directed by Lewis Arnold. It is also made in association with Sundance Now who have exclusive rights in North America, and All3Media International are distributing the series internationally. George Kay (writer)
George Kay is an English screenwriter. He wrote and co-created the international Netflix series ''Criminal'' and ''Lupin'', and the Apple TV+ thriller '' Hijack'', starring Idris Elba, as well as writing and executive-producing the 2022 television series '' Litvinenko''. He has also worked on the shows ''Stag'', '' My Mad Fat Diary'', '' The Hour'', ''The Tunnel'', and the first season of '' Killing Eve''. Whilst a teenage student at Wellington College, Berkshire, Kay met director Jim Field Smith, with whom he often collaborates. Liz White (actress)
Elizabeth White (born 11 August 1979) is an English actress, known for her roles as Annie Cartwright in the BBC series ''Life on Mars'' and Emma Keane in the Channel 4 school-based drama series ''Ackley Bridge''. ITVX (formerly ITV Hub) is a British online video-on-demand service operated by ITV plc, ITV. The service offers predominantly features content from ITV1, as well as ITV Digital Channels, ITV Digital channels and some licensed content.
