Loner
A loner is a person who does not seek out, or may actively avoid, interaction with other people. There are many potential reasons for their solitude. Intentional reasons include introversion, mysticism, spirituality, religion, or personal considerations. Unintentional reasons involve being highly sensitive or shy. More than one type of loner exists, and those who meet the criteria for being called loners often actually enjoy social interactions with people but display a degree of introversion which leads them to seek out time alone. Terminology The modern term ''loner'' can be used in the context of the belief that human beings are social creatures and that those who do not participate are deviants. However, being a loner is sometimes depicted culturally as a positive personality trait, as it can be indicative of independence and responsibility. Sula Wolff
Sulammith (Sula) Wolff FRCP FRCPysch (1 March 1924 – 21 September 2009) was a prominent and pioneering British child psychiatrist. She was amongst the first in her field to identify and define the characteristics of children on the autistic spectrum and establish the genetic component of the condition. Her work focused principally on a group of socially withdrawn, eccentric and schizoid children which she followed for over 20 years. In 1996 she translated a landmark paper by Grunya Sukhareva which may be the earliest description of autistic symptoms in children. Early life She was born on 1 March 1924 in Berlin, Weimar Germany, to Friedel (née Saloman) and Walther Wolff, a patent lawyer. She was brought up in Wetzlar. "The Loner" is a song written by Maurice Gibb and Billy Lawrie and originally included on Gibb's '' The Loner'' which was not released, although British rock band The Bloomfields covered the song and their version was released internationally, featuring a lead vocal of Billy Lawrie and Maurice Gibb, with Gibb on guitars and bass. They recorded this song for the film '' Bloomfield'', but the film was called ''The Hero'' in America. The song starts with a drum fill. "The Loner" is a song by Neil Young, his first solo single. It was released on his solo debut album in November 1968, and then an edited version as his debut solo single three months later on Reprise Records. It missed the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart completely, but over time has become a staple of his performance repertoire. Both it and " Sugar Mountain", its B-side recorded live at the Canterbury House in Ann Arbor, Michigan, were released on album together for his 1977 compilation, ''Decade''. History "The Loner" was written while Buffalo Springfield was in its last throes. ''The Loner'' is a live album by Australian singer-songwriter, Vic Simms, which was recorded when he was incarcerated in Bathurst Gaol in 1973. Background Vic Simms was convicted of a robbery in 1968 and was serving his seven-year sentence in Bathurst Gaol. While imprisoned he taught himself guitar and started song writing. The Robin Hood Foundation sent his demo tape to RCA Limited, which organised a mobile studio to be sent to the prison. ''The Loner'' is an album recorded in late 1969 by Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees. An album master was compiled on 14 November 1970, but to date ''The Loner'' remains unreleased. Bootleg releases with the same title collect additional recordings unrelated to this album. Background and recording The final sessions for the Bee Gees' album '' Cucumber Castle'' took place on October 16, 1969. Two songs, "End of My Song" and "Julia", were recorded but neither was released. Around November 1969, Gibb collaborated with Australian group Tin Tin on recordings of the songs "Nobody Moves Me Like You", "Loves Her That Way", "Flag/Put Your Money On My Dog". ''Loners'' (originally named Excelsior) is a spin-off mini-series of comic books from Marvel Comics, first appearing in the pages of '' Runaways''. It consists of a Los Angeles-based support group for former teenage superheroes from New York, founded by Turbo of the New Warriors, and Phil Urich, the heroic former Green Goblin. Their goals are initially stated to be to help fellow teenage superheroes to adjust to normal lives while coping with their powers, and to dissuade other superpowered teenagers from becoming heroes, but these goals are discarded in their own miniseries in favor of the group apparently wanting to avoid using their powers for any reason, even if that means abandoning helpless victims of crime to their fate.
