''The Lone Prairie'' is a 1942 American Western film directed by William Berke. It is one of a series of Westerns that Berke directed with the trio of Russell Hayden, Dub Taylor, and Bob Wills. It was produced and distributed by Columbia Pictures. William Berke
William A. Berke (born October 3, 1903 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin – died February 15, 1958 in Los Angeles, California) was an American film director, producer, actor and screenwriter. He wrote, directed, and/or produced some 200 films over a three-decade career. Biography Berke broke into motion pictures in 1922 as a writer for silent westerns. For these assignments he used the pseudonym "William Lester." In the early 1930s he formed a partnership with independent producer Bernard B. Ray to make feature films at Ray's Reliable Pictures studio, next door to the Columbia Pictures studio. Berke, now using his own name for screen credits, was equally capable making comedies, mysteries, action adventures, and westerns. In 1942 he joined Columbia, at first directing that studio's Charles Starrett and Russell Hayden westerns, and then branching out into more mainstream fare. The Texas Playboys
James Robert Wills (March 6, 1905 – May 13, 1975) was an American Western swing musician, songwriter, and bandleader. Considered by music authorities as the founder of Western swing, he was known widely as the King of Western Swing (although Spade Cooley self-promoted the moniker "King of Western Swing" from 1942 to 1969). Wills formed several bands and played radio stations around the South and West until he formed the Texas Playboys in 1934 with Wills on fiddle, Tommy Duncan on piano and vocals, rhythm guitarist June Whalin, tenor banjoist Johnnie Lee Wills, and Kermit Whalin who played steel guitar and bass. Oklahoma guitar player Eldon Shamblin joined the band in 1937 bringing jazzy influence and arrangements. Kermit Maynard
Kermit Maynard (September 20, 1897 – January 16, 1971) was an American actor and stuntman. Early years Born in Vevay, Indiana, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Maynard and a lookalike younger brother of actor Ken Maynard; they were frequently assumed to be identical twins. Maynard was a 1916 graduate of Columbus High School in Columbus, Indiana. He graduated with a degree in engineering from Indiana University and played college football as a lineman for the Indiana Hoosiers in the early 1920s. While at the university, he lettered in three sports in one year. After he finished college, Maynard worked as a claims agent for the George H. Hormel Meat Packing Company. Career Often billed as Tex Maynard early in his career, he appeared in 280 films between 1927 and 1962. Ernie Adams (actor)
Ernie Adams (born Ernest Stephen Dumarais; June 18, 1885 – November 26, 1947) was an American vaudevillian performer, stage and screen actor and writer. Biography Born in San Francisco, California to Leon D. Adams and Laurence G. Girard, he was also billed as Ernest S. Adams and Ernie S. Adams. He appeared in vaudeville, theater, and film. He started his career in musical comedy on Broadway. Along with his wife Berdonna Gilbert, he formed the vaudeville team "Gilbert and Adams". He appeared in more than 400 films starting from the silent era between 1919 and 1948, and was particularly known for playing shady characters. On Broadway, Adams appeared in ''Toot-Toot!'' (1918). On November 26, 1947, Adams died of an acute pulmonary edema at the West Olympic Sanitarium in Los Angeles, California, aged 62. Leon Barsha
Leon Barsha (December 26, 1905 November 13, 1964) was an American film producer, editor and director. As a producer and director he was best known for making films in the Western genre. In his later years he concentrated especially on editing. Personal Barsha was born in Manhattan, New York and died in California. He was married to Helen Barsha. They had a son, Tony, who became a playwright. Granddaughter Lili Barsha is an actor and writer. The North Hollywood home of the Barshas was designed by the architect Richard Neutra in 1937. The house has been restored twice and moved at least once, changing owners several times.
