James Leo Meehan
James Leo Meehan (1891 – 1943) was an American film director and screenwriter.Munden p. 411 He married the daughter of writer Gene Stratton-Porter, and adapted several of his mother-in-law's novels for the screen. He directed ''Campus Sweethearts'' (US 1930 RKO, 27 min, only shown at State Lake, Chicago - Natural Vision also shown in 35 mm) starring Rudy Vallee with Ginger Rogers among the cast. It is one of the early wide-gauge films. Edythe Chapman
Edythe Chapman (October 8, 1863 – October 15, 1948) was an American stage and silent film actress. Career Born in Rochester, New York, Chapman began her stage career as early as 1898 when she appeared in New York City in ''The Charity Ball''. She performed at the Shubert Theater in Brooklyn in a production of ''The Light Eternal'' in 1907. The play was a romantic drama of Imperial Rome which was supported by a cast of approximately 100 people. Chapman played maternal roles in numerous silent motion pictures and became known in the 1920s as ''Hollywood's Mother''. She played ''Ma Jones'' in the film version of '' Lightnin''' (1925), a screen production which featured Will Rogers. Edythe was ''Grandmother Janeway'' in ''Man Crazy'' (1927). Dorothy Yost
Dorothy Yost (April 25, 1899 – June 10, 1967), later married as Dorothy Yost Cummings, was a prominent screenwriter whose career lasted from the silent era well into the sound era. Over her lifetime, she worked on more than 90 films, including her own screenplays. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and died in Monrovia, California. Biography Before screenwriting, Yost appeared in plays produced by the Scovell Juvenile Stock Company. Yost finished her fourth year of high school before heading to California to begin work for the film industry. In 1917, she was hired as a secretary assisting the scenario editor at Triangle Film Corporation. Just six months after she was hired, she was promoted to the head of reading department, where she reviewed and edited scripts. Yost wrote her first continuity script at the age of 21 in 1920. Film Booking Offices of America (FBO), registered as FBO Pictures Corp., was an American film studio of the Silent film, silent era, a midsize producer and distributor of mostly low-budget films. The business began in 1918 as Robertson-Cole, an Anglo-American import-export company. Robertson-Cole began distributing films in the United States that December and opened a Los Angeles production facility in 1920. Late that year, R-C entered into a working relationship with East Coast financier Joseph P. Kennedy. A business reorganization in 1922 led to the company's assumption of the new FBO name. Two years later, the studio contracted with Western (genre), Western leading man Fred Thomson, who within a couple years was one of Cinema of the United States#Rise of Hollywood, Hollywood's most popular stars.
