The Little Minister (1921 Film)
''The Little Minister'' is a 1921 American silent drama film produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is based on an 1891 novel and 1897 play by J. M. Barrie. Betty Compson stars in the film. Earlier film adaptations of Barrie's novel were mad and this one was released within weeks of a version by Vitagraph starring Alice Calhoun. Plot As described in a film magazine, when the weavers of Thurms, Scotland, enraged by the reduction in the price of the "web," burn down a factory, Gavin (Hackathorne), the "little minister," intervenes with the constables on their behalf. His intervention is resented and he has a clash with Thomas (Oliver), riot leader and chief elder of the Kirk. The constables are hooted out of town. Penrhyn Stanlaws
Penrhyn Stanley Adamson, known as Penrhyn Stanlaws, (1877–1957) was a cover artist and film director. Sydney Adamson, who also became an illustrator, was his older brother. Career He was born in Dundee, Scotland. A successful cover artist, he picked Anna Q. Nilsson to become one of his models. He selected female models who toured by automobile to promote Liberty Loans. Stanlaws organized a syndicate to build the Hotel des Artistes at 1 West 67th with a large penthouse studio. He also planned a resort in Port Washington on Long Island but it was never built. He was a fan of the looks of Madge Bellamy. Alice Beatrice Calhoun (November 21, 1900 – June 3, 1966) was an American silent film actress. Film star Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she made her film debut in an uncredited role in 1918 and went on to appear in another forty-seven films between then and 1929. ''The House That Shadows Built'' (1931) is a feature compilation film from Paramount Pictures, made to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the studio's founding in 1912. The film was a promotional film for exhibitors and never had a regular theatrical release. The film includes a brief history of Paramount, interviews with various actors, and clips from upcoming projects (some of which never came to fruition). The title comes from a biography of Paramount founder Adolph Zukor, ''The House That Shadows Built'' (1928), by William Henry Irwin. Eye Filmmuseum is a film archive, museum, and cinema in Amsterdam that preserves and presents both Dutch and foreign films screened in the Netherlands. Location and history Eye Filmmuseum is located in the Overhoeks neighborhood of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Its predecessor was the Dutch Historical Film Archive, founded in 1946 by David van Staveren, Felix Halverstad, and directors of Filmtheater Kriterion Piet Meerburg and Paul Kijzer. Following the accession of the archives of the Filmtheater de Uitkijk, the archive was renamed the Netherlands Filmmuseum under the leadership of its first director, film collector Jan de Vaal. CINEMATEK (Dutch: Koninklijk Belgisch Filmarchief; French: Cinémathèque royale de Belgique; English: Royal Belgian Film Archive) is a film archive in Brussels, Belgium. The archive was established in 1938 under the name Royal Belgian Film Archive by Henri Storck, André Thirifays, and Piet Vermeylen. Its collection include works on film by Man Ray, Duchamp and Léger. As of 2018, the archive held 47,726 films and over a hundred-thousand film materials, with over eight thousand of the items originating from Belgium. The challenges associated with managing the collection were discussed in a 2001 article by Gabrielle Claes who served as director of the archive from 1988 until 2011. Cinematek led the organization of the EXPRMNTL film festival which was run four times: 1949, 1958, 1963, 1967, and 1974. Joseph H. Hazelton (c. 1853 – October 6, 1936), aka Joseph Hazleton, was an American stage and film actor. He appeared in 30 films between 1912 and 1922. As a boy program giver at Ford's Theatre, he witnessed the assassination of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865. Life and career Hazelton debuted on stage as a child when a production at Grover's Theater in Washington, D.C. needed a boy to play a young prince in '' King John''. Thereafter, he continued to stay around the theater, doing odd jobs and handing out programs. In 1910, he was a member of the Columbia Players in Washington, D.C. When the Pasadena Community Playhouse presented ''Our American Cousin'' in 1930, Hazelton spoke during intermission of each performance, relating what he witnessed as he observed the assassination.
