The Legends (Tejano Band)
The Legends are a Tejano "supergroup" of senior Tejano musicians. Members are Carlos Guzmán, Freddie MartÃnez Sr., Sunny Ozuna, and AugustÃn RamÃrez. The group's first album ¿Qué Es Música Tejana? Sunny Ozuna
Sunny & the Sunglows (formed by songwriter Jimmie Lewing and Sunny Ozuna in Palacios, Texas) was an American musical group in started 1959, and later known as Sunny & the Sunliners in 1963 after moving to San Antonio, Texas. Career The group's members were all Chicano-born with the exception of Amos Johnson Jr., and their style was a blend of rhythm and blues, tejano, blues, and mariachi. They first recorded in 1962 for their own label, Sunglow. Okeh Records picked up their single "Golly Gee" for national distribution that year, and in 1963, Huey P Meaux, a producer from Louisiana and owner of Tear Drop Records, had them record a remake of Little Willie John's 1958 hit, " Talk to Me, Talk to Me". The single "Talk to Me" ( b/w "Every Week, Every Month, Every Year"), released on Tear Drop Records, went to No. 4 on the Adult Contemporary chart, No. 12 on the US ''Billboard'' R&B chart, and No. 11 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in October 1963. The winners of the Second Annual Latin Grammy Awards were announced during a press conference on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, California. The conference, which was broadcast live on the internet, was hosted by Jimmy Smits and Paul Rodriguez. Alejandro Sanz was the big winner winning four awards including Album of the Year. Juanes won three awards including Best New Artist. Cancellation Prior to the date of the event, the Latin Grammys were moved from Miami to Los Angeles due to protests by Cuban exiles for allowing musicians living in Cuba to perform. The awards were to have been presented at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles CA with a CBS national telecast on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. It was to be hosted by Jimmy Smits and Christina Aguilera. The telecast was cancelled because of the terrorist attacks that morning in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Tejano Music Groups
Tejanos (, ; singular: ''Tejano/a''; Spanish for "Texan", originally borrowed from the Caddo ''tayshas'') are the residents of the state of Texas who are culturally descended from the Mexican population of Tejas and Coahuila that lived in the region prior to it becoming what is now known as the state of Texas before it became a U.S. state in 1845. The term is also sometimes applied to all Texans of Mexican descent. The original word Tejano, with a "J" not an "X', comes from the indigenous Caddo people's language, from the word ''tayshas'', in which the word means "friend" or "ally", a title given to the indigenous population that moved northward by early Aztec and Spanish rulers and combined forces, including, but not limited to, the Lipan N'de Apache People, Coahuiltecas, and Huasteca indigenous people from Zacatecas.
