Howard Bretherton
Howard Bretherton (13 February 1890, in Tacoma, Washington – 12 April 1969, in San Diego, California) was an American film director, film editor, and the father of film editor David Bretherton. Career He began his career as a propman and then became a film editor during the early 1920s for MGM. He directed his first film, ''While London Sleeps'', in 1926, and thereafter spent more than three decades working mostly as a film director. Of the roughly 100 pictures he directed, most of them were westerns and action/adventure films. The final film he directed was ''Night Raiders (1952 film), Night Raiders'' in 1952. Afterwards, he occasionally worked as a director in television through 1958. Christian Rub
Christian Rub (pronounced ''Rhoob''; April 13, 1886 – April 14, 1956) was an Austrian-born American character actor. He was known for his work in films of the late 1910s to the early 1950s, and was featured in more than 100 films. Biography He was born in Graz, in Austria-Hungary. His first appearance was in the 1919 movie '' The Belle of New York''. Rub was the visual basis for and voice of Geppetto in the 1940 animated Disney film ''Pinocchio'', as well as voices of kindly old men for MGM, Fox and Warner Bros. cartoons. During the creation of ''Pinocchio,'' Rub was notorious amongst the film's animators for his open and frequent expression of admiration for Adolf Hitler. Rub's last movie role was in 1952's ''Something for the Birds''. He died in Santa Barbara, California one day after his 70th birthday. Lal Chand Mehra was an Indian character actor and academic active in Hollywood from the 1920s through the 1960s. Biography Mehra was born into a prominent Hindu family in Amritsar, India. He attended the University of Punjab as an undergraduate, and got his postgraduate degrees in education and philosophy at the University of California at Berkeley. In Hollywood, he worked as an actor and also as a technical director on films that called for knowledge of Indian culture and customs. He also gave lectures on Indian culture and current events throughout Southern California and on the radio. He told reporters he planned on eventually going back to India and directing films, but it does not appear that he returned to India. He married concert violinist Georgia Williams in 1933.
