The Last Warning (1938 Film)
''The Last Warning'' is a 1938 American mystery film directed by Albert S. Rogell and written by Edmund Hartmann. It is based on the 1938 novel ''The Dead Don't Care'' by Jonathan Latimer. The film stars Preston Foster, Frank Jenks, Kay Linaker, E. E. Clive, Joyce Compton and Frances Robinson. The film was released on January 6, 1939, by Universal Pictures. Plot Detective Bill Crane and his sidekick Doc Williams are hired by John Essex who has been receiving threatening letters, they are sent to his uncle's country estate to investigate and soon enough his sister Linda is kidnapped. Roland Drew (born Walter Goss; August 4, 1900 – March 17, 1988) was an American actor. Biography Born in 1900 in New York City, Drew made his first film in 1926 and continued to work until the 1940s. Noted primarily as Dolores del Río's leading man in ''Ramona'' in 1928, another of his prominent film roles was as Dr. Robinson in ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' a decade later. His other appearances include ''From Nine to Nine'', '' Hitler, Beast of Berlin'', '' Bermuda Mystery'', and ''Two O'Clock Courage''. He also gained fame as Prince Barin in the 1940 film serial ''Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe''. ''The Crime Club'' was an imprint of the Doubleday publishing company, which later spawned a 1946-47 anthology radio series, and a 1937-1939 film series. Literature Many classic and popular works of detective and mystery fiction had their first U.S. editions published via the Crime Club, including all 50 books of The Saint by Leslie Charteris (1928-1983). The imprint also published first editions in Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu series. The Crime Club began life in 1928 with the publication of ''The Desert Moon Mystery'' by Kay Cleaver Strahan, and ceased publication in 1991. In the intervening 63 years, The Crime Club published 2,492 titles. Richard Lane (May 28, 1899 – September 5, 1982) was an American actor and television announcer/presenter. In movies, he played assured, fast-talking slickers: usually press agents, policemen and detectives, sometimes swindlers and frauds. He is perhaps best known to movie fans as "Inspector Farraday" in the Boston Blackie mystery-comedies.
