The Last Waltz (1953 Film)
''The Last Waltz'' (german: Der letzte Walzer) is a 1953 West German musical romance film directed by Arthur Maria Rabenalt, and starring Eva Bartok, Curd Jürgens, and O. E. Hasse. It is an operetta film, based on the 1920 work ''The Last Waltz'' by Oscar Straus. It was one of several film adaptations of the operetta. It was shot partly at the Wiesbaden Studios in Hesse and on location in the Rhineland. The film's sets were designed by the art director Max Mellin. Arthur Maria Rabenalt
Arthur Maria Rabenalt (25 June 1905 – 26 February 1993) was an Austrian film director, writer, and author. He directed more than 90 films between 1934 and 1978. His 1958 film ''That Won't Keep a Sailor Down'' was entered into the 1st Moscow International Film Festival. Two years later, his 1960 film ''Big Request Concert'' was entered into the 2nd Moscow International Film Festival. His career encompassed both Nazi cinema and West German productions. He also wrote several books on the 1930s and 1940s wave of German cinema. Career In his early teens, Rabenalt began his stage career directing operas at theatres in Darmstadt, Berlin and Gera. From then on to the mid-1920s he worked (though uncredited) as a production assistant on several films such including G. W. Pabst's ''Joyless Street'' (1925). Vera Schwarz (10 July 1888 - 4 December 1964) was an Austrian soprano, known primarily for her operetta partnership with Richard Tauber. Life Vera Schwarz was born in Zagreb, the daughter of Hungarian-Croatian aviation pioneer David Schwarz. She studied in Vienna with Philipp Forstén and gave her debut in 1908 at the Theater an der Wien. From 1908 to 1912 she was a member of the Grazer Oper, and from 1911 to 1913 she sang at the Johann Strauß-Theater in Vienna. Erni Mangold (sometimes ''Ernie'' or ''Erna;'' born as Erna Goldmann on 25 January 1927) is an Austrian actress and stage director. Since 1948, she had appeared in more than 75 films and TV productions. Life Goldmann was born into a family of artists. The father was a painter, whilst her mother, who was likely to become a successful concert pianist, resigned to her career in favour of her family. She had piano lessons from age 4 to 14 years. Siegfried Breuer
Siegfried Breuer (24 June 1906 – 1 February 1954) was an Austrian stage and film actor and occasional film director and screenwriter. Biography Born in Vienna, Siegried was the son of Hans Breuer (1868 or 1870–1929), who was an opera singer and actor from Cologne. Performing was in the blood and he studied at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, some time in the early 1920s and made his stage debut at the Volkstheater, Vienna in 1924. After some 15 years of stage acting he made his screen debut in a film called ''Eins zu Eins'' in 1939 where he went on to star in over 50 films between 1939 and 1954. In 1950 he directed, wrote and starred in the film ''Der Schuß durchs Fenster'' in which he worked with Curd Jürgens. His son Siegfried Breuer Jr. and grandchildren Jacques Breuer and Pascal Breuer are also in the entertainment industry. Anna Christina Maria "Christl" Mardayn (8 December 1896 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary – 24 July 1971) was an Austrian actress/singer. Life Anna Christina Maria Mardayn was the daughter of banker Oskar Maria Mardayn and his wife Henriette (née Fusek).
