The Last Princess (film)
''The Last Princess'' () is a 2016 South Korean period drama film directed by Hur Jin-ho with a screenplay by Hur, Lee Han-eol, and Seo Yoo-min, based on the best-selling novel by Kwon Bi-young. It stars Son Ye-jin as Princess Deokhye, the last princess of the Joseon Dynasty. The film depicts Princess Deokhye's life in Japan after she was forced to move there at age 13 by the Imperial Japanese government, and her attempts to return to Korea. Plot In 1925, Korea is ruled by Japan, and 13-year-old Princess Deokhye – the last princess of the Joseon Dynasty – is forced to move to Japan to attend school there. She misses her home, and after she finishes school she makes several attempts to return, but is prevented by pro-Japanese general Han Taek-soo. Hur Jin-ho
Heo Jin-ho (; born August 8, 1963) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. Career Heo Jin-ho graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in philosophy and went on to study filmmaking at the Korean Academy of Film Arts. His first steps as a film director did not go unnoticed as his first short, ''For Go-chul'', was selected for the Vancouver International Film Festival. He later co-wrote the script of ''A Single Spark'' and ''Kilimanjaro''. Many of his feature films, ''Christmas in August'' (shown at the Critics' Week in Cannes in 1998), ''One Fine Spring Day'' (2001), '' April Snow'' (2005), ''Happiness'' (2007) and '' A Good Rain Knows'' (2009) are variations on Hur's favorite theme: love. Gojong Of Korea
Gojong (; 8 September 1852 – 21 January 1919) was the monarch of Korea from 1864 to 1907. He reigned as the last King of Joseon from 1864 to 1897, and as the first Emperor of Korea from 1897 until his forced abdication in 1907. He is known posthumously as the Emperor Gwangmu (). He was instrumental in the forced signing of the Treaty of Ganghwa (1876), an unequal treaty which would eventually pave the way for Japanese annexation of Korea. In 1895, his wife Queen Min was assassinated by Japanese agents, strengthening the king's antipathy towards the Japanese. Gojong declared Korea an empire in 1897, which ended the country's historic subordination to the Qing dynasty. Baek Yoon-sik (born 16 March 1947) is a South Korean actor. He is known for his characteristic near-expressionless facial acting. Career Baek Yoon-sik made his debut in 1970 on KBS TV. In the coming years he would appear in four films, taking lead roles in his acting debut ''Excellent Guys'' and in romantic comedy ''Only with You'' with Seo Mi-kyung, a young star of the time. Imperial Consort Gwiin Yang
Imperial Consort Boknyeong Gwi-in of the Cheongju Yang clan (27 September 1882 – 30 May 1929) (복녕당 귀인 양씨), was a consort of Emperor Gojong of Korea. Her personal name was Yang Chun-gi (양춘기, 梁春基). She entered Deoksugung Palace as a court lady on March 10, 1905. After the birth of the Princess Deokhye on May 25, 1912, she received the title "Boknyeong" (복녕, 福寧). Lady Yang died on May 30, 1929 and is buried at Seosamreung, in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
