''The Last Night'' (russian: Последняя ночь) is a 1936 Soviet drama film directed by Yuli Raizman. Plot The film takes place on the last night of the Russian Empire. The film intertwines the fate of the family of the capitalist Leontyev and the worker Zakharkin, whose children are involved in organizing the worker's uprising. Yuli Raizman
Yuli Yakovlevich Raizman (russian: Юлий Яковлевич Райзман; December 15, 1903 – December 11, 1994) was a Soviet Russian film director and screenwriter. Career In 1924 he became a literary consultant for Mezhrabpom-Rus, the German-Russian film studio. He was assigned as assistant to Yakov Protazanov in 1925 and made his directorial debut in 1927 with ''The Circle'', first drawing attention the following year with '' Penal Servitude''. His next success was ''The Earth Thirsts'' in 1930, the Soviet Union's first sound film. He joined Mosfilm in 1931 and in 1937 he won his first Stalin Prize (of the Second degree) for ''The Last Night'', which was also his first collaboration with the writer Yevgeny Gabrilovich with whom he worked for the next 40 years. The film also achieved international recognition winning the Grand Prix at the Paris International Exhibition of 1937. Nikolai Nikolayevich Rybnikov (russian: Никола́й Никола́евич Ры́бников; 13 December 1930 – 22 October 1990) was a Soviet and Russian film actor. People's Artist of the RSFSR (1981). Biography Early life and education Nikolai Nikolayevich Rybnikov was born on 13 December 1930 in Borisoglebsk, Voronezh Oblast. His father Nikolai Nikolayevich, was a factory fitter and his mother, Klavdiya Aleksandrovna, a housewife. He also had a brother, Vyacheslav. With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Rybnikov the elder went to the front, and the mother took her sons and moved to Stalingrad to her sister, believing that it would be safe there. But from the front they received news of the death of his father. Soon after receiving the tragic news, Klavdiya Aleksandrovna also died.
