The Last Gun
"The Last Italian" ( it, Jim il primo, lit=Jim the First) is a 1964 Italian Western film directed by Sergio Bergonzelli. The story unfolds in 1866 in Arizona, where a town faces a threat from bandits. This prompts a former gunfighter to once again arm himself for a final showdown. Release "The Last Gun" was first released in 1964. It was distributed in Italy by Dipa as "Jim il Primo," translated as "Jim the First." It was distributed in England by British Lion as "Killer's Canyon." Reception In a retrospective review, Christopher Forsley of PopMatters described "the entire film ..is unfocused". Forsley delved into the portrayal of female characters, noting that "every female character ..no matter her age, faces a sustained threat of sexual assault." Despite the disturbing nature of this themes, Forsley remarked that "it's through this unrelenting threat that Bergonzelli's uniquely perverted voice is heard and the film is almost redeemed for its many failures." Sergio Bergonzelli (25 August 1924 – 24 September 2002) was an Italian director, screenwriter, producer and actor. Life and career Born in Alba, Cuneo, Bergonzelli graduated in Philosophy, then he started working as an actor with the stage name Siro Carme. After being assistant and second unit director in a number of genre films, in 1960 he made his debut as director and screenwriter with '' Seven in the Sun''. Also a film producer, Bergonzelli was the first to produce Spaghetti Western films entirely shot in Italy. In the 1970s he specialized in the erotic genre. Cameron Mitchell (actor)
Cameron Mitchell (born Cameron McDowell Mitzell; November 4, 1918 – July 6, 1994) was an American film, television, and stage actor. He began his career on Broadway before entering films in the 1950s, appearing in several major features. Late in his career, he became known for his roles in numerous exploitation films in the 1970s and 1980s. Mitchell began acting on Broadway in the late 1930s before signing a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and appearing in such films as '' Cass Timberlane'' (1945) and ''Homecoming'' (1948). He subsequently originated the role of Happy Loman in the Broadway production of Arthur Miller's ''Death of a Salesman'' (1949), a role he reprised in the 1951 film adaptation. With 20th Century Fox, he appeared in ''How to Marry a Millionaire'' (1953). Carl Möhner
Carl Martin Rudolf Möhner (11 August 1921 – 14 January 2005) was an Austrian film actor, director, screenwriter and painter. He appeared in more than 40 films between 1949 and 1976. His most famous roles were as Jo "le Suédois" in the 1955 French heist film ''Rififi'' and as Captain of Battleship Bismarck in the film Sink the Bismarck!. Möhner retired from filming in 1976. He married Wilma Langhamer, a German painter in 1978. In 1979 the couple settled down in McAllen, Texas, where Carl died from Parkinson's disease in 2005. He had two sons, Gunther and Gernot (also actors) from a previous relationship. The Western is a genre Setting (narrative), set in the American frontier and commonly associated with Americana (culture), folk tales of the Western United States, particularly the Southwestern United States, as well as Northern Mexico and Western Canada. Italian Western (genre) Films
The Spaghetti Western is a broad subgenre of Western films produced in Europe. It emerged in the mid-1960s in the wake of Sergio Leone's film-making style and international box-office success. The term was used by foreign critics because most of these Westerns were produced and directed by Italians. Leone's films and other core Spaghetti Westerns are often described as having eschewed, criticized, or even "demythologized" many of the conventions of traditional U.S. Westerns. This was partly intentional and partly the context of a different cultural background. Terminology According to veteran Spaghetti Western actor Aldo Sambrell, the phrase "Spaghetti Western" was coined by Spanish journalist Alfonso Sánchez in reference to the Italian food spaghetti.
