The Last Bridge
''The Last Bridge'' (german: Die Letzte Brücke) is a 1954 Austrian-Yugoslavian war drama film directed by Helmut Käutner and starring Maria Schell, Bernhard Wicki and Barbara Rütting.Von Dassanowsky p.157 It tells the story of a German nurse who is captured by Yugoslav partisans, and with her devotion to medical duty finds herself with divided loyalty to both sides of the conflict. The film was entered into the 1954 Cannes Film Festival. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Otto Pischinger and Wolf Witzemann. Location shooting took place in Mostar and the Neretva valley in Bosnia. Helmut Käutner
Helmut Käutner (25 March 1908 – 20 April 1980) was a German film director active mainly in the 1940s and 1950s. He entered the film industry at the end of the Weimar Republic and released his first films as a director in Nazi Germany. Käutner is relatively unknown outside of Germany, although he is considered one of the best filmmakers in German film history. He was one of the most influential film directors of German post-war cinema and became known for his sophisticated literary adaptations. He was born in Düsseldorf, German Empire, Germany. Käutner started out as a director in the Nazi era, but his films remained largely free of Nationalsocialist propaganda. One of his early successes was ''Romanze in Moll'' (1943), an adaptation of Guy du Maupassant’s short story “Les Bijoux". Tilla Durieux (born Ottilie Godeffroy; 18 August 1880 – 21 February 1971) was an Austrian theatre and film actress of the first decades of the 20th century. Early Years Born Ottilie Helene Angela Godeffroy on 18 August 1880, she was the daughter of the Austrian chemist Richard Max Victor Godeffroy (1847–1895) and his wife, the Hungarian pianist Adelheid Ottilie Augustine Godeffroy (née Hrdlicka, died 1920), who was born in Romania. After graduating from elementary school, she switched to the public school in Vienna's 9th district. She was baptized in the evangelical parish Augsburg Confession in Vienna. Carl Möhner
Carl Martin Rudolf Möhner (11 August 1921 – 14 January 2005) was an Austrian film actor, director, screenwriter and painter. He appeared in more than 40 films between 1949 and 1976. His most famous roles were as Jo "le Suédois" in the 1955 French heist film ''Rififi'' and as Captain of Battleship Bismarck in the film Sink the Bismarck!. Möhner retired from filming in 1976. He married Wilma Langhamer, a German painter in 1978. In 1979 the couple settled down in McAllen, Texas, where Carl died from Parkinson's disease in 2005.
