''The Landowner's Daughter'' ( pt, Sinhá Moça) is a 1953 Brazilian drama film directed by Tom Payne and Oswaldo Sampaio. It was entered into the 4th Berlin International Film Festival The 4th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 18 to 29 June 1954. This year's festival did not give any official jury prizes, instead awards were given by audience voting. This continued until the FIAPF granted Berlin "A-Status .... Tom Payne (4 October 1914 – 15 September 1996) was a Brazilian film director, screenwriter and actor, known for '' The Landowner's Daughter'' (1955), '' Payne and Hilliard'' (1931) and ''Curucu, Beast of the Amazon'' (1956). Anselmo Duarte Bento (; 21 April 1920 – 7 November 2009) was a Brazilian actor, screenwriter and film director. Early life Duarte was born in Salto, São Paulo on 21 April 1920. He was raised by his mother, alongside his six siblings. Career His 1962 film ''O Pagador de Promessas''—''Keeper of Promises''—was awarded the Golden Palm at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival, becoming, to date, the only Brazilian feature film to be distinguished this way and the first winner from the Southern Hemisphere. Eliane Margaret Elizabeth Lange (born 16 July 1928) is a French-born Brazilian actress and writer, best known for playing the lead role in 1953 film '' The Landowner's Daughter''. Life and career Lange was born on 16 July 1928, in Paris, France. Her father was Brazilian and her mother was English. She came to Brazil when she was six months old. From a young age, she began working with underprivileged children, mainly in Dona Marta Favela. Dissatisfied with her limitations, she went to study in England, and from there she went to Greece, where she helped in a concentration camp for Greek children during the civil war. Back in Brazil in 1950, she was invited by Tom Payne to audition for the film ''Caiçara''. After the success of '' Caiçara'', Tom convinced her to film ''Ângela in Pelotas.'' Ruth Pinto de Souza (May 12, 1921 – July 28, 2019) was a Brazilian actress. Biography As a member of the Black Experimental Theater (''Teatro Experimental do Negro,'' TEN), she is one of the first Black actresses in dramatic theater in Brazil and one of the first to perform at the Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. The Black Experimental Theater was created in 1944 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to combat racism and create opportunities for Black talent in theater. Along with other Afro-Brazilians women, Ruth participated in the premiere performance of TEN as a member of the chorus and later played the Native Woman, the only female character in Eugene O'Neill's play ''The Emperor Jones''. She was awarded with Prêmio Saci. She died in Rio de Janeiro in the neighbourhood of Copacabana in July 2019 at the age of 98.
