The Lambeth Walk (film)
''The Lambeth Walk'' is a 1939 British musical comedy film directed by Albert de Courville and starring Lupino Lane, Sally Gray and Seymour Hicks. It was an adaptation of the 1937 musical '' Me and My Girl'', and was released under that title in the U.S. The film takes its British title from the play's best known song, "The Lambeth Walk". The star of the musical, Lupino Lane, reprised his lead role in the film. Synopsis Bill Snibson, a chancer from Lambeth Walk in South London, is informed that he has been discovered to be the long-lost heir to a title and castle which he can claim provided he is able to convince his new relations that he has enough aristocratic bearing. Things soon begin to go awry however, particularly when Sally, Bill's girlfriend from Lambeth, turns up. Albert De Courville
Albert Pierre de Courville (26 March 1887 – 15 March 1960) (born in Croydon, England) was a writer and director of theatrical revues, many of which featured the actress and singer Shirley Kellogg, whom he married in June 1913. Career In about 1907 he began work in London as a journalist with the ''Evening News''. A good reporter, he was soon earning as much as £20 a week, but thought there were more possibilities, and money, in the theatre. He joined forces with London impresario Sir Edward Moss and staged revues at the London Hippodrome. In the 1930s he turned to making films. His two most famous films, both featuring Jessie Matthews were ''There Goes the Bride (1932 film), There Goes the Bride'' (1932) and ''The Midshipmaid'' (1932). Charles Heslop (8 June 1883 in Thames Ditton, England – 13 April 1966) was a British actor. His stage successes include a musical version of '' Tons of Money'', which toured Australia for Hugh J. Ward in 1924, co-starring Dot Brunton. He starred in the BBC television comedy Percy Ponsonby as a talkative barber. The series was broadcast in 1939, and was cancelled with the outbreak of the Second World War. In 1954 he appeared in William Douglas Home's ''The Manor of Northstead'' in the West End. May Hallatt (born Marie Effie Hullatt; 1 May 1876 – 20 May 1969) was an English actress, born in Scarborough. Wilfrid Hyde-White (12 May 1903 – 6 May 1991) was a British character actor of stage, film and television. He achieved international recognition for his role as Colonel Pickering in the film version of the musical ''My Fair Lady'' (1964). Enid Stamp Taylor
Enid Georgiana Stamp Taylor (12 June 1904 – 13 January 1946) was an English actress. Her childhood home was 17, Percy Avenue, in Whitley Bay, Northumberland, in what is now Tyne and Wear. Taylor first became known when she won a beauty pageant at a young age and this led to parts in musical comedies on stage, including ''The Cabaret Girl'' (1922), in which she was billed as simply "Enid Taylor". She progressed to film, appearing in Alfred Hitchcock's '' Easy Virtue'' (1928), ''Queen of Hearts'' (1934), and ''The Wicked Lady'' (1945). The Stamp part of her name was included as a middle name; it was her grandmother's maiden name. Taylor married Sidney Colton and they had a daughter called Robin Anne who was born in 1933. Biography She was born as Norah Lillian Emily Smeed on 12 December 1900, in Fulham, London, England, her father was Alfred Howard Smeed.
