''The Lady of the Camellias'' (Italian: ''La signora dalle camelie'') is a 1947 Italian musical drama film directed by Nelly Corradi, Gino Mattera and Manfredi Polverosi. It is an adaptation of the 1853 opera '' La traviata'' by Giuseppe Verdi. In 1948 it was released in America by Columbia Pictures under the title ''The Lost One''. The film's sets were designed by the art director Gastone Medin. Costume design was by Georges Annenkov. Carmine Gallone
Carmine Gallone (10 September 1885 – 11 March 1973) was an early Italian film director, screenwriter, and film producer, who was also controversial for his works of pro-Fascist propaganda and historical revisionism. Considered one of Italian cinema's leading early directors, he directed over 120 films in his fifty-year career between 1913 and 1963. Life and career Carmine Gallone was born as Carmelo Camillo Gallone on 10 September 1885 in Taggia (in the province of Imperia), but grew up in Naples. Francesco Albanese (13 August 1912 in Torre del Greco, Naples – 11 June 2005 in Rome) was a lyric tenor, particularly associated with the Italian repertory. Albanese studied in Rome with Francesco Salfi, and made his stage debut in 1940, at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, as Evandre in Gluck's '' Alceste'', where he remained until 1942, also singing Almaviva, Fenton, Rinuccio. Tito Gobbi (24 October 19135 March 1984) was an Italian operatic baritone with an international reputation. He made his operatic debut in Gubbio in 1935 as Count Rodolfo in Bellini's ''La sonnambula'' and quickly appeared in Italy's major opera houses. By the time he retired in 1979 he had acquired a repertoire of almost 100 operatic roles. They ranged from Mozart's mid-range baritone roles through Rossini's Barber through Donizetti and the standard Verdi and Puccini baritone roles to Alban Berg's ''Wozzeck''. He had a worldwide career as operatic baritone, appearing in (or recording the singing role) for over 25 films and, from the mid-1960s onward, was the stage director for about ten different operas which were given close to 35 productions throughout Europe and North America, including a significant number in Chicago for the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Massimo Serato, born Giuseppe Segato, (31 May 1916 – 22 December 1989) was an Italian film actor with a career spanning over 40 years. Serato was born in Oderzo, Veneto, Italy and started appearing in films in 1938. He played leading roles in several historical dramas and sword and sandal epics, mainly Italian, as well as roles in major international films.
